Engine Noise at 6000 RPMS

After 6000 RPMs my engine makes a metallic rattiling noise. It is def. coming from the engine, and is a "whizzing/shaking" noise. I have searched about this and I can't find much information.

My car sounds alot different then this.

I assumed this was the vtec, but lately i'm thinking it could be something else. Most people say they can tell when the vtec activates by sound or speed, but I cant.

Does anyone else experience this with their Si's?

Are you putting premium gas? It could be knocking... I would have that checked out by the dealer..

I don't think you should here VTEC kick in, and the new i-VTEC systems activate at different points depending the cam phase (timing) that is being used at that moment. Anyway, take it to the dealer.

WEll, you SHOULD hear vtec kick in at 6k rpms at all times.... When I removed the cat-back even at 35% throttle, you were able to hear vtec kick in nicely at 6k. All Ivtec does is adjuct cam timing. The actual switching over of cams is done at 6k rpms...

Do Si's have a secondary intakes? I know my '94 GSR you could hear the secondary open up at higher RPMS, but it really just made things more aggressive sounding. And yeah, I would expect that you would hear something with aftermarket, I was talking stock. It seems to me VTEC should kick in before 6000 RPMS. But I don't have a manual for the new Si yet, so I can't say for sure.

In fact now that I think about it, that sounds like it is probably one of the butterflies in the secondary intake not opening properly, I've heard of that happening on GSR's

Jrfish007, you definitely hear the vtec change over at 6K in the Si. There is nothing gradual about it :)

Many of the drive reviews of the Si make mention of the very noticable change.

Nathan, there was some mention of that metallic rattling sound over a ToV, but it was a while back. I can hear it now and then, but not every time.

yeah i have this same "problem" its on the tov forums as well. its supposedly normal. if you have your windows rolled up and sunroof closed you will hear it. its supposedly the timing chain, and according to the people on tov it is completely normal.

I'm still not convinced that the VTEC kicking in. Like I said it's probably the secondary intakes. It just doesn't make sence to me, I mean cars that rev far higher than the Si, have VTEC engage much lower than the 6,000 RPM's. For instance my GSR revved to 8200 RPM, but VTEC kicked in at 4200, same with other cars like the RSX-s and S2000, it doesn't make sence to me that they would make the Si so high....

Does anyone have a Helm manual yet, it should say in there
