I posted this on another thread, but I figured making a new thread might get more attention. sorry, i'll delete the other post if i've violated protocol.
I have a stock, unmodified, 5spd '07 civic sedan. it has 2500 miles, mostly from highway (drove from chicago to school in providence, and i go up to boston every sunday). before i start, i want to note that at 100 miles, my oil solenoid malfunctioned and i couldn't rev past 3k RPM. I went to the dealership and they replaced it for me, saying that they've never seen a problem like this, but knew of instances where other people had this problem. anyway, on my way back from dropping off my mom at the airport (she came to visit =] ), i was shifting into second and i dropped the clutch a half second earlier than i was supposed to and grinded (sp?) the gear. i immediately released the clutch and shifted correctly after than, and it went into gear, then shifted into third. however, upon stopping at an intersection, i go from first to second, and i realize that 1) the shifter doesn't "click" into 2nd gear 2) i can't even get into 2nd gear. it's as if 2nd gear does not exist. i can shift into first from stop and into third from there, but no luck in getting into 2nd. i haven't tried getting into 4th (mostly because i don't want to go fast knowing my 2nd doesn't work. anyone have any suggestions as to what might be the problem? i called the nearby dealership and they said to call back on monday when service dept. opens. I kinda feel like I've got a serious case of a lemon.

i have an '07 civic LX, so there's only 5 gears. the shifter actually feels as if it's been misaligned, as normal shifting motion does not work, but the motion an inch lower (closer to the armrest) allows movement. i'll check under the hood and underneath to see if anything is obstructing the shifter. I'll bring it into the local dealer's if i can't figure it out soon. |

brought it into a nearby dealership this morning and just got a call that it's fixed. apparently, the technician opened up the console and found that the clip for the sleeve of the shifter cable that got unclipped. they seemed baffled as to why that would happen, except if someone unclipped it or just got overlooked at the factory. first option isn't possible unless i did it in my sleep...
this is the second factory/manufacturing defect i've found on my car that significantly impacted my driving. arg! |

Sorry about all the problems you were having. My Civic is probably one of the first ones out of the factory, and I havent had any issues with it yet. I have a little over 30K miles on it too.
Maybe the guy who put yours together was a little tired that day! |
