Disconnecting Battery

Anyone have any tips for disconnecting the battery on the Si? Or tips for leaving the car for a month or so. Just exploring options (alternatives to bugging friends to start it every week).

Maybe remove it, bring inside (not on concrete), place on battery tender?

I don't think it takes any special tools. I don't remember for sure but I think it is either a 10mm or 12mm wrench, but you could probably get by with just a crescent wrench. Always take the negative terminal off first.

Thanks. Should I take the whole battery off or just disconnect the negative and leave the battery in? Where would I route the - wire if I leave it there.

You could leave the battery in and just tuck the wire off to the side (as long as it doesn't have any chance of touching the positive terminal).

However it is probably best to remove the battery, particularly if you aren't going to put a battery tender (automatic charger) on it. If a battery sits for a long time without being charged it will release corrosive gasses as it discharges. If this happens it is best that it happens away from your car.

As long as it is not connected to the battery, you shouldn't have to worry about the neg. cable touching the positive cable, since there isn't a completed circuit. Because you have taken the cable off. I agree w/ everything else though. since you live in the land of frozen sunshine, you need to at least take it in to an area that is above freezing.
