Memory Loss
Good day, After hooking up my indash dvd player my Car got a complete memory loss. It seems as though the power/memory wire used to hold memory for the indash stereo equipment got grounded or something. Now it holds no memory of previous settings once i turn the car off. What should i do and is there anything that can remedy the situation. Ive checked all fuses and none has seemed to be blown. Any ideas

Hold up, you mean you were hooking up an aftermarket DVD player right? If it isn't holding positions in songs, movies, or remembering the time, then it's the hot wire (usually yellow) that isn't spliced properly. The yellow wire which is your constant power to your system which keeps all the data in memory. The red wire is your ignition wire which sends the current to turn it on. So if the yellow wire isn't properly spliced, then you will have this "memory loss" every time.
And if it was a bad ground, it wouldn't turn on at all. So you can rule that out. |

Yeah, I know what kind of pain the dealer can be. I'd invest in a multimeter and check your wires. I'd hate to say that it COULD be a blown fuse, because usually a blown fuse would show more symptoms than just a "memory loss." But you could check your fuses to be safe.
