Question Si Check Engine light - Code Overspeed?

So i was driving normally from Atlanta to Greenville when my check engine came on leaving the gas station (and yes, the cap was on tight).

I took it in today and here is what they gave me:

Pulled fault Memory and found P0219, P0420.

I have an '06 si with K&N typhoon, Random tech cat and Magnaflow Exhaust.

I've never had any cells or lights up until this point.

All I could find on the PO219 overspeed condition is this : http://www.k-series.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12258 (looks like an over rev?? - but i promise IF i have ever over reved it was NOT on this trip)

It looks like the code P0420 is a catalyst system efficiency below threshold - so could my cat be going bad? It's pretty new.....

My car has 35k miles, so I have another 1k miles under warranty for now (I purchased the 100k extension when I bought it).

Any input or ideas? My dealer really couldnt tell me anything except blaming it all on my aftermarket parts.

Don't know about that promise. Why do people think that over speed code goes away when you shut off the car, or better still, after 20 miles? You've had your car for 35K miles. Remember when you....

And P0420 points to your Random Tech Cat. Either the cat or installation or both. You install your stuff? Check your installation. Someone else install your stuff? Have them check your installation.

Gratuitous [Insert Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act, yo!]

Thanks for the info....I did mis-shift one night about a month before, scared the crap out of me (actually the night before I got married lol)

And the cat was installed by my a Honda service center - I will have them check the installation next week.

Honda did reset the system and the light is now off and has not returned.

Hope it stays that way....thanks again for the input.

The engine overspeed code is silent, meaning that it sits in memory and does not trigger a CEL. Your light came on for the catalyst system and that's when you noticed the overspeed code.

Most cars store this code this way. My ford would store silent codes for both rev limiter and speed limiter.

How long does the code stay in memory and is there a way to reset the memory?...

Come to think of it, how does the ECU log car usage? Is it base on days?

Not when you are looking to resell the car. I only paid an extra $1000 for 64,000 miles (100,000 mile warranty). Car is Honda Certified and the extended warranty is fully transferable. Car will go back to stock when I sell it......this aint my first rodeo....but to each his own. I always think its funny people tell others how to spend thier money.

Just disconnect the battery and it'll go away, I don't know about the log though.

And on the warranty, yes it's valuable in the eyes of a buyer buying your car off the street but if you tell a dealer you have that warranty they will just laugh. They tell you to buy it to increase resale value at sale time, and then when it's trade in time they tell you it's worth nothing to them.

The P0420 came on in my car also. Its from the high flow cat just like mine. I have had the engine overspeed code before also but just go to autozone and have it cleared off for free. If it comes back on for the same thing then you have a problem. A word of advice to you and anyone else with aftermarket stuff. HAVE THE CODES CHECKED OUT AT A PLACE FOR FREE FIRST! The dealers will try to charge you for it and most of the time there is nothing wrong with your system except that its modified from stock.
