Sun roof rattle/creaking/nose - dealership fix

edit: title should say "noise"

So I've had just about every rattle possible with the sunroof. From the creaking with the rubber liner, to the rattle coming from the tracking.

I set up an appointment with my dealership and took the technician for a drive this morning. I wanted to make SURE they heard it so they couldn't give me any bullshit of how they "weren't able to reproduce it."

Anyways, they just called and said that they will attempt to fix it but they will need to tear out the entire head liner, sunroof, and interior side panels

I gave them the go ahead, and they will have it for the rest of today and all of tomorrow they noted. They just wanted to get the ok with me beforehand because of the chance that taking it apart could produce even MORE noises.

I figure it can't get worse then it already is, and if it does get worse... well...

I will keep you guys updated, as I know many of you have been trying to death to get rid of these noises.

No, I do have bad luck- as far as rattles and noises are concerned, I've had nearly everyone in the book.

I also tried to have them check out the rear speaker deck rattle, but it wouldn't make the noise for them. It sucks, it only does it at certain times.

I don't care though, as long as they can fix the sun roof noises for the time being, I'll be happy- they are annoying as HELL.

I had a sqeeky sunroof and the dealer put some kind of conditioner to the weatherstrip, and that seemed to fix it.

Mine makes the odd rattle from right where the map lights and sunroof button is, but I can live with it. I'd rather listen to the odd rattle then have them take apart the roof liner and maybe fix it. I've seen entire Corollas at work with the entire interior stripped out to properly re-install the roof liner. No thanks.

Update: Still in the service shop, they just called and still said they are tearing out the headliner and sunroof

They're getting me a loaner car this afternoon... something tells me I won't have it back before the weekend. I don't care though, as long as the damn thing is finally fixed.

a simple fix for the sqeaky rubber is to clean the rubber weatherstripping with your houseold cleaner of choice, and clean the edge of the roof where the weatherstripping comes in contact. then use silicon spray and coat the weather stripping. works for about 2 months for me, then i reapply the silicone spray.

im not sure if that was the squeak you had, but that will fix one of them

I've read the DIY for those, and considered it... but the silicone will be worse on the rubber weatherstripping down the road. It can lead to drying up and cracking.

But yeah, it was that creaking sound and a rattle in the tracking as well.

I've had every rattle in the book, as well, including this one. I don't think they tore everything apart for it, however.

I sympathize with you, bud.
