New 06 Si Wrecked!! Frame Bent! Need Advise
HEY!!!!!!!!!
Some old azz lady hit me on the side yesterday destroying my passenger door and putting an dent/bend in my frame on that side. I looked at the other side of my car and noticed that there is a 3 inch knot on that side of the frame, like the hit made the other side of the car buckle! Now I know we have that unibody frame. The damn Progressive insurance rep said that they should be able to repair the frame. Here is what I need to know. What is the likelyhood of this, and it being done right? I figured it would be totalled since the frame is bent. If they refuse to total it, what are my options? What can I do to get it totalled. I don't want to be paying on a car for 5 years with a messed up frame! HELP, HELP, HELP!!!!! |

Damn that sucks!
thats wierd, generally the will total it if the frame is damaged. But if they say they are going to fix it they have to fix it to pre crash conditions, so if you get it back and it still has a bent frame then they will have to fix it again or total it. good luck, keep us up to date.

I got in a horrible wreck over xmas break. I rear-ended someone and both the cops and the tow truck driver said it was totaled. So...a couple weeks later once the adjuster finally figures out how much it is going to cost to repair with the body shop, the total bill was around $11k. The insurance company refused to total it becuase in order for Mercury to total it, the total cost of repair must be 70% or more of the total value of the car. I was about a thousand dollars away from getting an insurance check for the value of the car, but instead i only got $11k. I decided to keep the insurance money cause i didnt want a messed up car since the chances of repairing that much damage the right way were in my opinion slim to none. The body shop actually said they could action off my car as is and give me the amount they sell it for. I got $4k for the car, so the total amount i got was $15k, which was close to the cost of the 7th gen civic so i lucked out. In your case i would just hope that there is alot of damage, so much that it will cost too much to repair and youll get a check for the value of the car. Even if the frame is bent, if it costs less to repair the car the company will do that rather than total it. If the company doesnt total it, i would sell the car. Also, if they give you the option of which body shop, take it to the most expensive one you can find, so the bill for repairing the car will hopefully be too high. I know what youre going through and it really sucks. Hang in there. Good luck!

wow... that sucks man. My advise is to try get other outside quotes for fixing it, and use those when arguing with the insurance compnay. Other wise, depending on the company, they will fix it at their place which may not be all that great.

Your going to have to take the car for estimates first to see what amount they quote you to fix the car! We need pictures of the damage here! Some old man side swiped my car a few weeks ago and the damage was estimated at almost 6k. I filed against the other parties ins company, progressive. When the ins agent came out I asked him if they appraised any other 06 Civics yet. He stated to me that they just repaired a Civic totaling a $11,000+ in damages. So its probably very unlikely that they're going to total your car. You can also sell your car after the car has been fixed!

i have heard of some companies(body shops) actually been able to take the shell of a car off, and replace the frame with a new one, They did this in Canada for a recall on a Caddy, my cousin actually did one took him about 23 hours in total to complete the job where he works.....

Being a brand new 2006 car, I'd see about selling it and suing the owner of the car for the difference.
Price of New Car - Insurance Check = Amount to sue for. I wouldn't apply depreciation value on a brand new car in great condition as you can reasonally have expected years of trouble free service from it. Last edited by PhoenixDown; 04-18-2006 at 01:02 PM. |

Although with our cars they're unibody, so... I'm not to sure on how it would be done. The moral of this is to take them for all that they are worth. It wasn't your fault and you need to drill that to them. Take it to a Honda dealer and have them do it. It's gong to cost an ass load but that's the old ladies fault not yours. |
