whirring engine noise

i have a si.

so from 8200rpm on second, i either mis-shift into first or hit third with it popping back out. i'm not sure exactly what i did b/c it happened so fast, but the rpms jumped pass 9k rpm. i hit the clutch and put it in neutral as fast as i can, fearing the death of my car.

so my car has started to make this whirring sound. it's audible under 3k rpm and happens only when the gas is engaged. the pitch of the whirring sound gets higher if you're in a higher gear.

i'm thinking it's a serious internal engine problem. any ideas on what it could be before i take it to the dealer?

the whirring noise is very similar to the one on this thread. listen to the whirring sound near the end of both sound clips.

I mis-shifted...

after driving around a bit this morning, i have a feeling it's something w/ the transmission? shifting is now much more audible.

can anybody diagnose?

finally found time to drop my car off. the tech says he doesn't exactly know what it is. possibly an axel? he'll give me a call later today.

i also told them to take a look at my 3rd gear popping.

the diagnosis is main shaft bearing; it'll be replaced tomorrow under warranty.

so i searched and found this: http://www.hondacivicforum.com/m_377138/tm.htm
it looks like a very fun diy, but i'll let the dealer handle it =D

so the dealer replaced the bearing, and it's still making the noise. they're gonna replace the entire transmission with a new one.

supposedibbly they'll be done tomorrow evening *crosses fingers*
