Steering Wheel Cover cracking

I have an 07 Si Sedan with 1600mi on it. I was sweeping the inside of the car out when I noticed the steering wheel cover is cracking. It is a section 1-2" long and not very wide. It almost looks like it has done it from sitting in the sun.

Should the dealer cover this? I am afraid they will put up a fight and say its normal wear and tear. I would consider that wear and tear if it had 100k miles, but I have 1,600 miles!!!

I would say normal tear without the wear. Take it in. Well I guess we have to add this to the list of crapy materials in our 8th gen.
My hands seem to be getting very dry ever since I've been driving my new 06 coupe. Is it the material or me getting old?

If you provide us a picture we can tell you for sure if it will be covered under warranty or not. This sounds like an absolute case for warranty. Take it in.

my steering wheel has started making a popping/tapping sound as if the plastic around the steering wheel column has cracked... would be interested to see where you've found the crack so i can check mine too.

had mine for 5 months now. about 4,200 miles and its looking faded to me.

the leather cover might be a good investment for u to look into, i am considering the same.

My '06 Si has 14k miles...no cracks, fading, or wear on the steering wheel. It sits outside all day every day.

Except for not being able to see yours personally, this should be covered under warranty. But I don't work for Honda, so don't hold me to it.

My car is garaged at home or in covered parking at work so my inside is hardly ever exposed to the sun, I have little to no wear on my steering with over 6000 miles

I've got 12k on mine, looks like the day I bought it...thanks to leather conditioner, and garaged storage.

This is the quote the dealer hears the most from me in regards to the "normal wear and tear" of the interior.

Puhlease.

I believe, though, that accessories have a limited warranty of a year or something, don't they?

If you mean the occasional cracks of white/tanish lines, then I know what you mean. I just use Turtle Wax Interior Cleaner on the steering wheel, and it goes away, same with the fading on the radio tuner on the steering wheel.

I am having the same problem. When I took it to the dealership they said there is a seam in the middle right where mine was cracking and that it's just separating. They are ordering the part and going to replace it.

Are your air vents pointed at your hands? Maybe the car is increasing fuel economy by sucking the energy out of your hands.
