First gear issue.

Not going all the way to 8000 RPMs, its going to about 7500 and then bouncing like its hit the rev limiters. It only happens when the engine is cold, but i'm wondering if this is something i should be concerned about.

Maybe it loweres the limiter when its cold? I know VTAK doens't kick in until 140 degrees or about 4 bars of temp.

It's because the engine is cold, I think this was discussed in another thread before

Your beating the piss out of your engine when you do that. Let it warm up before you rev the crap out of it.

What your hitting is a lowered rev limiter to keep the engine from getting hurt.

doing that often you'll only face huge problems down the road and could be looking at replacing your engine eventually

well from my understanding your car has been off all night or for a while a lot of you oil is sitting in the oil pan. when you turn on your car and while your car is heating up the oil is heating up as well and beginning to circulate the engine. so running to 8k on a cold engine is not the same as a car that has been on for a while.

Others have it right: this is probably solely because your car isn't warmed up. Most of us experience a great deal of notchiness and lurching when the engine isn't warmed up.

Your dealership will probably tell you "Your car wasn't meant to be driven that hard."

im not talking about the difference between red-lining ur car when warmed up and when it's cold. im talking about red-lining in general. whether ur car is warmed up or not, and though we drive Si's (or at least I do anyway), red-lining ur car puts a piss load of strain on ur engine, no?

Yes it does but the Si engine is made to handle such stress and run, which is why our redline is so high. You could redline it as long as you do not keep hitting the rev limiter.
And as a testament I think limiters help out especially for the new and naive drivers that do things to destroy the engine trying to look cool.

Thats funny cuz my dealer said "this car was made to redline"...He was chirping the stock Si into 3rd on test drive.
"You can red line this thing all day and it will still drive perfect!"

I lol'd at him...

But yea let your car warm up every time you start your car..better gas and better for your car.

well like said earlier, the ECU doesnt let vtec kick in till the engine temp is up. The reason the rev limit kicks in at 7000 is because the engine wasnt designed to rev all the way to 8000 rpms on the small cam when its cold. it cant get enough air while on the small cam. Its just a safety feature honda put in to keep dumb people from putting so much stress on a cold engine. So many people abuse engines while they are still cold.
