I deleted a couple posts, if you dont have anything helpful to contribute to the thread, dont bother posting.

As far as i know, its better to switch to synthetic sooner rather than later. Personally i feel more comfortable running synthetic oil as long as the oil meter generally wants to than on dino oil.

Also there should be a couple of other threads with similar discussions, a quick search should help you to find them

synthetic is more expansive than dino oil, so if you have the money, then by all means go for it.
there are a few advantages and aside from the expense, no real disadvantage. you can switch to it anytime; i have not read any credible articles suggesting that switching to syn. oil early is bad

I switched over on the first oil change and from what I read and talking to the dealership's mechs. It's good for our small hot high rev engines.
Synthetic=Peace of Mind.

My dealer told me that Honda recommends waiting at least 10,000 miles before changing to synth. I waited until my 3rd change, which was at 9000 miles.

You had three oil changes within 9k miles? Wow must drive really hard to force the oil change meter to tell you to change the oil that much.

IMO anytime after 1k miles is fine to use a good quality synthetic oil.

Amsoil, Redline, Torco, Elf, and if your on a budget Mobil1.

I switched to Royal Purple synthetic oil at 3500 miles, and 40% on the maintenance meter.

Royal Purple says they don't recommend changing to synthetic oil at 2000 miles or less.

I to am a bigger fan of keeping with the ~3000/3 month oil change as opposed to using the maintenance minder, but to each his own. I reset the mm when I change the oil, and I reference the mm level in my records when I change my oil.

Also, so the person complaining about the cost of synthetic oil, oil doesn't cost nearly as much as gas, and you don't blow through oil, like you blow through gas, so you might as well use quality oil, that will hopefully prolong your engine's life.

So let me get this straight... Are you advocating using a 3,000 mile OCI and Synthetic oil?

Honda lied to you.

You never want to run a car with full syn before 1500 miles give or take. After that I always run Full syn for the life of the motor.

These synthetic oil threads are always entertaining...the number of opinions matches the number of posts LOL

Just change your oil...do it however you want...you're not going to hurt a single thing.

Most all of them are backed up by NO real lab testing or long term engine testing... lol However the honda manual calls for a 600 mile breakin period and was shipped with a unique oil for a real lab tested reason.

Very few people keep a car long enough to know or see any benifit or negative results from good oil or bad oil.

I installed the 200.00ish Amsoil oil bypass filter but only kept the car 60k miles. And I did have a lab test run on the oil to see that is was working. But I never really saw the benifit of it or the $$$ oil I used. It may have helped with resale value.

The high end cars like the corvette do come with full syn. But that's becuase the motors are broken in at the factory! Some even suggest switching back to dino oil for the initial1500 miles.

I've heard that kind of comment before but I've yet to see it confirmed from a credible source. Do you know something the rest of us don't?

I've owned two cars that came from the factory with a fill of synthetic oil and have followed this debate for over a decade now and I've never heard someone seriously suggest that they should revert their Vette, MB, BMW, Porsche, VW, Audi or Acrua RDX to dino juice in favor of the factory fill of synthetic. Do you have any references?

Sure, well, advocating might be somewhat *strong*. All I'm saying, is that personally, I stick to the ~3,000 OCI (not perfect, as you saw, I did my first oil change at about 3,500).

I don't care what anyone else does with their car, all I know is that I'm comfortable with the way I treat my car.

i just did my first change today to synth at 6600..so easy a caveman blah blah blah..oil drain plug is a 17mm (r18)...filter was on real tight...nothin a giant channel locks cant handle...4 quarts but i cant tell if its full or not with that lame dipstick...

edit: synth oil is superior to mineral based oil..reduced engine wear, improved gas mileage and increased horsepower..not too shabby huh? read and learn
