quality issues - paint chips

there r some obvious quality issues with civics...one that really bothers me is the paint chipping...after 6 months i hav a handful...no other car that iv owned has done this (ive ownd 6)..has ne one been successful in remedying this problem? other than repairing...perhaps we can organize (a petition) just to let honda know...some pressure could help

^^Haha, dude the people on here are going to defend Honda at all costs. Instead of just admitting they try to desperately prove that everyone else has it to, so it must be ok.

But anyway, you have a civic economy car. They don't paint them with the same paint they use on Ferrari's.

I agree with you though. But I'm not sure people are going to organize for a petition on here after the failure of the RSX petition for manual transmission problems.

There are people on this forum who would defend Honda even if they decided to sell a car made out of cardboard.

The Civic's paint sucks, and a lot of other cars have the same thing. From what I understand, its due to changes in the regulations in automotive paint.

But yes, the Civic has massive quality issues, despite what a lot of people will claim don't exist.

Whoa two against me i feel so ... loved.
Every caar manufacturer has changed paints due to environmental problems and procedues you have to follow(one of them is emission if you didn't know). So, most car manufacturers are now using environment-friendly paint with a thinner clear-coat.
You can see this even on the 3 series. Mazda has a thicker paint but ehh you don't want that type of paint. it doesn't get swirls but with time it cracks. And i don't mean as in 7-10 years but less than 2 yearslol.

Edit: whoa i just re-read my response lol Wanted to say two things at once but it came out to be a complete mess! lol

Can anyone provide a link to a news report, or other source besides a blog that describes these "new rules" for car manufacturer paint processes or quality?

Without actually knowing anything - I would guess that it's actually a new paint process that manufacturers are using that has benefits in other areas of the paint, but performs bad in the paint chipping arena.

If not that - then it's some cost-savings-related change.

I had a '98 Civic - and it had paint chips all over the front, but they weren't as noticeable because the car was silver. I took really good care of that car too.

The paint chips really stand out on the Fiji Blue.

also keep in mind that the paint honda uses is not the same as it used to be. supposedly honda mixes the paint and clear coat together?

rock chips and swirls are different.
One is caused by debri on the road, the other is caused by say cleaning your car/giving it a car wash.

I added that since most in here are annoyed by the swirls most than the rock chips.
Rock chips occur due to road debri and noone can deny that. Unless you live in a city where roads are cleaned 24/7 and there isn't even a small pebble out there that will hit your car.

alrite kids lets settle down.

as far as rock chips, 3M makes this realllllly thin piece of clear plastic that you could fabricate into making a cover out of. I didnt go to the extreme of covering my entire front end, but I did take bits and pieces to cover the more "vulnerable" areas. You can't really tell it's there, unless ur touching the car. Even up close, ppl couldn't tell I had it on there.

something that concerns me about the paint is look on the insides of the panels, under the car, inside the fenders/door area even in the engine bay and u will see they dont really bother painting these areas at all its all just what looks like overspray and mist....... these newer cars r gonna rust easily and will be peices of shit in only a couple years up north where all the snow and salt is..... They are gonna fall apart.....my fg2 is a my first new car and first car newer than an 89 and i dunno if i would buy another brand new car with the way things are going. Id say my money would be better spent restoring an older car and building a motor as opposed to spending $20k or more on something new with such poor quality.... I dont think its just a honda problem i think its just the new industry standards and its going to bite the makers in the ass hopefully........Write all the letters u want complain all u want but they already got ur money and feel they no longer owe u a thing.... so i urge ppl to show ur concerns and outrage buy speaking the corporate language and be heard through ur money..... make them step their shit up......
