Is anyone else's DBW like this?

I think we all know DBW is probably one of the most bitched-about 'flaws' of the new civics. I've noticed something kind of wierd with mine (a good thing, though). When I first got the car, it was (and still is without doing it carefully) quite hard to shift perfectly smooth due to the RPMs staying high when I was releasing the clutch. Lately, however, I've noticed that maybe every 1 out of 3 times I drive the car, the RPMs drop the second I put the clutch in, compared to how it usually stayed up for about ~2-3 seconds before dropping. Has anyone else noticed this, and if so, why is it doing it? And more importantly, how can I make it keep doing this?! It feels so good to just let out the clutch and not have the car lightly jerk forward.

my guess is the computer was countering the lack of spinning the input shaft and clutch.
And also when you start going the engine goes off of warm up mode (if you have a scangauge when the car immediately starts it in open loop, then when you start going it goes to closed loop).
but dont quote me on that.

LOL you guys haven't driven other cars with DBW.
Go right ahead onto other dealerships. You'll love your civic afterwards.

Ive noticed that the DBW is not nearly as prevalent when the A/C is on. Is this maybe what you are experiencing?

What are you talking about? I'm 18, I haven't exactly been through a whole list of cars yet. In fact, the only two cars I've ever actually had as my own was an 06 civic, and an 07 SI.

go to your VW or bmw dealership and tell them you wanna trade your civic for one of their car. Test drive them and make your own conclusion.

^^ Lol, I'd laugh at myself for walking into a BMW dealer and pretending like I was gonna buy a car there.

Anyways, this thread is NOT(edit) a bitch post about how much I hate DBW. I'm just wondering why sometimes it's very prevalent, and other times it's practically non-existent. There has to be a reason..

Search for "rev hang" on here. I am pretty sure this is the same symptoms you are taking about. If so, take it to the dealership and reference TSB#06-052. They supposedly "reduced but did not eliminate" this problem with an ECU update.

iVTEC, you should have driven the first cars with catalytic converters. I bought a brand new Chevy Monza in 1975. You could not drive the car at a steady 30-35 miles per hour without the car bucking and kicking like a ticked off bronco. When I brought the car in, they said they were running lean to meet emission standards. I told them it was impossible to drive the car smoothly. They rejetted the carb which only made my fuel economy go down terribly. Cold starts were particularly bad. The Si is so smooth by comparison, there really is no issue for me.

drive a MINI Cooper S, they wont mind. DBW. try pushing the sport button in front of the shifter. adjusts the DBW and steering weight.

actually believe it or not, there is a reason honda purposely made the 8th gen civics where the rev "hangs". it is annoying, but it's mostly geared toward amateur MT drivers. i did read about it in an article by honda. i'll post up the name/date/etc of it when i get a chance.

I know what rev-hang is, I'm pretty sure every civic has it. I'm just curious why one time it hangs, the other times it doesn't. I'd like to see if there's something that's causing the rev hang to go away.. so I could possibly replicate it and have it work all the time like that. Simply said, I suck at shifting when the RPMs are held up and it nearly always results in a bucking. When the RPMs drop, I can shift perfectly smooth.

exactly. same reason why BMW M3 and MINI Cooper S have a sport button to increase DBW sensitivity. it would be too dificualt for most drivers to drive smooth with it. even though in normal mode its still more sensitive than Honda.

the Civic is an extremly smooth driving car no matter how crummy your clutching is.

ROFL.

Pertaining to the OP question, I find that the RPMs go down much faster if I deliberately (not slowly) fully let off the gas before pushing the clutch in. But that just may be my car.

no every civic does not have this. ive owned a 93, 95, and a 02 civic. NONE of them had rev-hangs. and yes, the revs do drop a bit faster if the AC is on.

and if ur car jerks when u shift, try releasing the clutch pedal a bit slower than usual.

Except, the point is that when I'm doing some "spirited" driving, I can't do it with DBW without the car jerking every time I shift. I think this is also the reason why I grind gears way more often than I did with my previous standard car which did not have DBW.

DBW just puts un-needed strain on the cluth because it's the part of the car that needs to adjust for the rev hand when you're trying to drive at the redline.

it depends on how long it has been since you have been on the gas...if you haven't touched the gas for about 5+ seconds before your clutch then the rpm's don't hang
