SRS Light Problem

I went to Honda today for an oil change and to get the SRS airbag recall fixed. The SRS light stayed lit for a week now. They ran a diagnostic and found out that the recall has nothing to do with it. Now they are telling me that the computer threw a SRS error code 12-1 source disconnect/possible short in wire. The stealership didnt touch it because I have an aftermarket radio and I have the LEDs in my foot wells. They were telling me that these aftermarket item might have caused the problem and I have to remove it and bring the car back after it gets back to stock. They charged me today for $95 for diagnostics.

anyone know anything bout the code?

anyone experiencing this SRS light problem?

I drive an 06 EX Coupe

Just so you know, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm almost positive that a dealership cannot charge you the cost to do diagnostics for a problem they "think" was caused by third-party equipment. I'd ask to speak to a manager and get your money back.

well i spoke to him and he said i just got charge for an hour and they worked in my car for almost 2 hours.

well they let me sign this paper saying

"I acknowledge that there will be a 1 hour diagnostic fee of $95 for diagnostic time spent on vehicle."

I was going to say the same thing. How can they charge you for "diagnostics" if they don't even know what the problem is.

the only thing that they stated in the paper is it threw a srs light code 12-1: disconnected source/possible short...

thats it so they couldnt really pinpoint if its a factory defect...

so now i have to take out the radio so that i they can check it back

correct me if im wrong, but by law, dont the stealership have to PROVE that its the aftermarket product thats CAUSING the problem in order to void warranty?...if they THINK its the product thats causing the problem, i dont think its enough to void the warranty, at best they have to come up with a logical reasoning that states due to your aftermarket radio and LED lights, it affected the SRS lighting to a certain extent. i believe only then can tell you to take everything out and come back to get it fixed. just my $0.02.

If they saw that you tapped into the SRS wires for you LEDs or something like that it would be different. But having them refuse to work on your car untill you remove everything you put in your car is absurd. They should go ahead with continuity checks or whatever they have to do to determine the problem. At that point if they find that you did something then they have a case.

thanks guys

now my question is what should i do?

take it out the aftermarket items and bring it back to the stealership?

or fight that they should continue checking what the problem is?

update is i got it fixed...

according to honda... they replaced my battery with a new one because i have a lot of aftermarket items installed that caused the battery to drain out a couple of times and made the battery not to hold enough charge which caused the ecu to throw an srs light code..

so yeah they did it under warranty but it was a one time deal.. if it happens again (hopefully not) and they found out that the battery died again, i have to buy my new battery.

are you having the same problem?
