Tape on front spoiler

I was cleaning my car the other day and I noticed there was black tape (sort of like electrical tape, but more heavy duty) on the corners of the front under body spoiler. It was about 1/2 an inch on both sides (folded over) and just in the corners. Anyone else notice this? I'm wondering if I should just take it off.

I have that on mine, too. I noticed it the day I got the car... I thought maybe someone at the dealership scratched it up or something. I forgot about it until now

No. That's 3M tape used to secure the spoiler to the car. It's heavy duty because it stands up to elements like rain and snow.

But not when you drive down the road, the tape gets ripped and torn from elements on the road after a while.

It's not THAT week. Unless you've done something to do that, 3M tape will hold up for years. Wings West uses ABS kits that are put on with 3M double sided tape. A good friend of mine had his on for years before he sold the car.

Besides, it's not THAT big of piece of tape. They're just in the corners, holding the corners of the kit to the body. It's not like that's ALL that's holding them on. The rest of the kit is screwed on.

I don't think the tape is holding anything on! Looks like its there to reinforce the rubber lip spoiler. Also the littler rubber lip piece is attached by clips not screws.

Are you talking about the HFP spoiler or the small black spoiler underneath the front bumper?

I think it protects the bottom of the car, going over speed bumps and such.

why tape? why not just make that part stiffer or stronger? Once you go over a couple of speed bumps and scrape off all the tape on the bottom, what is its purpose then?

I'd like to know the same thing. Maybe its meant to be pulled off by the dealer at pre inspection or somthing, maybe they just want to protect the rubber lip for shipping

Funny coincidence, I was checking the underbody of my car for installation of neon lights, and I noticed that tape too. I'm leaving it though, I don't really care. If I can't see it, and it's not hurting anything, no reason to remove it.

it's called a front air dam spoiler. it's there to help deflect air into the engine compartment while driving. it has nothing to do with protecting the underside of the car. these things will get ripped off after getting to close to a parking stop or curb. take them off or leave them on - really does not make that much of a difference in engine temps.

we know what the part is and does...its not a question of that. Its a question of the tape folded over the bottom of the corners of the spoiler.

A picture is worth a thousand words

The tape, or what's left of it on my EX Sedan...

This is what happens when you scrape on bumper blocks.

I'm pretty sure the tape is to protect the rubber spoiler from damage when the car is loaded on to and off the transport truck. My tape was shreded so I removed it.
