Automatic Transmission on the 07 Civic

Is anybody hearing a weird scrape or grind noise when you roll on idle?

haven't experienced anything like this as yet; if it continues and is replicable, might wanna have it looked at

be careful. honda's auto trannies are not that great in reliability. case and point: anyone in here own a 7th gen? those things were known, even finally admitted by honda, for trannies to take a shiznit. my 02 civic tranny went out at 74k miles.

You must be thinking of the 98-2000 Accords and 1999-2001 Odyssey's
They were all known for having auto tranny problems.

I have seen only one 7th gen civic need a tranny, where as I cannot count how many of those accords and odyssey's needed a rebuilt tranny.

It happens when you first let your foot of the brake right? It could be the shoes in your drums making noise as they release. In that case it may only happen when you are on a hill sloping one way because the load on the brakes is different when on a hill the other way.

How many miles are on your car? Maybe you could try removing the drums and cleaning the dust out and lubricating the backing plate contact points (not the shoe's friction material or the drum!) with brake grease. Just a thought.

I don't have this problem, but I have seen drum brakes make noises like this on many cars. There are several moving parts in a drum brake system. If you get brake dust or rust on any of the surfaces they can make noises But even if everything is clean there is a chance for noise because the brake shoes are just held against the backing plate with springs and slide against it. I'm not saying this is for sure your problem. It is just one possibility I thought of.

well shouldnt the noise only be happening when i step on my brakes everytime??cuz it only happens when i shift to Drive, let go of brakes, let it roll a little bit then i would hear it then everything would be okay..when i would apply the brakes during normal driving there is no noise. do the rear drum brakes engage in a certain way when i shift so it makes that scrape noise?

Hmm. Does it only do it when you drive for the first time of the day? or does it do it every time you put it from park to drive and start moving?
