New Recall: Rear Bearing (Revised, threads merged)

So I've made the dealership my partial home the last two weeks, getting (constant) rattles fixed, my cowel replaced due to peeling, my wiper arm replaced due to paint peeling and chipping, and a slew of other things.

Last week, my service tech Lisa called me and told me they have a new recall, and if they should do it. I told her yes.

The next day, I came up to Burnsville and they said "That's so weird...the bulliten disappeared. Its gone from the system".

Honda pulled it. I inquired about it again this morning, and it JUST reappeared.

Its for the rear bearing. I have no idea what model Civic this is for, but I know for sure its at LEAST the Si coupe, and I'll update it when I find out how wide-ranging this potentially could be.

According to the bullitin (I'll get a copy when I leave), it said something along the lines of,

"The rear bearing on the <insert year> Civic <insert model> is improperly sealed from the factory, potentially allowing water or other foreign objects to get inside and corrode/rust the bearing, which may result in the wheel falling off/causing an accident."

Yay Honda. I'm glad its back up, that's potentially seriously. Not something I'd expect from a Honda, but I just figured you should all know. I didnt want to post anything about it until I knew FOR SURE.

UPDATE #2 - REVISED Recall Notice can be found here: Safety Recall: 07-055

UPDATE #3- Canadian Recall Notice can be found here: Safety Recall: VIII-9-07

Wow - I have the same issues with paint peeling on my e-brake handle and it chipped off on one of my volume buttons. This is the 5th Honda I've owned and I've never had problems like that before. Just curious, did they give you grief when you complained about the paint peeling and chipping on the interior? On my next oil change I'm giving them hell...

This isn't new. I heard about this about a month ago. Not sure about it being the Si, or all coupes. Supposedly a majority of the models suffering from this were LX models. Not sure why there would be different wheel bearings but who knows.

Well clearly its not old if its not on the NHTSA, Honda Owner Link or any other informative websites.

No record of it existed at this Honda dealership prior to today that they could access or print. It was available as an option to look at, but provided no information until just today.

Ill get the print out and scan it later tonight. I have class at 1:25 and a night class until 8:50 though.

I've stopped bothering complaining about the piss poor paint and poor interior quality. It gets me nowhere but on their nerves.

They're getting irritated enough with me as it is, Im sure, whining about all these constant squeaks and rattles.

But there's "nothing we (they) can do about poor paint and bad quality on the interior, as its wear and tear".

Thanks for the heads up. I'm taking in my car on Friday for the front suspension "knocking" sound. I'll see if anything new develops by then.

Get it done and then sell it! With all the problems you've encountered it would have been on a used car lot by now if it were mine.

For those of you who claim there are no current recalls, I'll post the several page bulletin when I get home.

It also has something to do with a sensor, if I recall correctly, I haven't throughly read it yet.

Print out a copy of the bulletin I'm going to post later, and they won't be able to dispute it.

I'll give you all a little preview before I upload the official Service Bulletin later tonight.

Safety Recall: Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor and O-Ring Inspection
Service Bulletin 07-055 / September 12th, 2007

Background:
During assembly, some wheel speed sensors may have been improperly installed and do not seal the hub assembly. Water may enter the hub assembly and damage the wheel bearing. In areas where road salt is used, the wheel bearings may corrode, which may cause the wheel to separate and fall off, increasing the risk of a crash." (being in Minnesota, this is just effing fantastic for me)

Vehicles Affected:
2006 Civic:
Coupe R18 : VIN 2HGFG1...6H500009 - 2HGFG1...6H584624
Coupe K20 : VIN 2HGFG2.5.6H700084 - 2HGFG2.5.6H713846
Sedan R18 : VIN 2HGFA1...6H500005 - 2HGFA1...6H528911

2007 Civic:
Coupe R18 : 2HGFG1...7H500001 - 2HGFG1...7H539744
Coupe K20 : 2HGFG2.5.7H700001 - 2HGFG2.5.7H706051
Sedan R18 : 2HGFA1...7H500001 - 2HGFA1...7H502258
Sedan K20 : 2HGFA5...7H700001 - 2HGFA5...7H707417

Corrective Action:
Inspect both rear ABS wheel speed sensors and their O-rings. If an ABS wheel speed sensor or the O-ring is damaged, replace the damaged part and the hub bearing unit on that wheel.

-------

I also have the instructions on how to fix it, haha, and an example of the letter you (should be) getting advising you about the recall.

ill assume that r20 is supposed to be k20?
also, is this an actual recall, or a TSB?

It says "Safety Recall". You'll be getting a letter in the mail, supposedly.

It also says Service Bulletin at the top, with number 07-055.
