They use tons of road salt here in Chicago. My car goes from RR to TW if I leave the salt on it!!

I'm not sure why this thread is running concurrently with a 10+ page one...

Exactly where most of the US destination vehicles go (built at Honda Canada). Which again is why you will see this issue being more related to Honda Canada rather than the Ohio built vehicles. Also remember that only a portion of the 4 dr Civics are built in Ohio...everything else (all 2 dr's, half the 4drs, and all Si's) are built at Honda Canada. So obviously the lead manufacturer is going to see a higher rate of defects (since the volume is so much higher).

I just check my vin number and am included, am sure the dealership where i live has no clue what i will be talking about if i take it in, my car drives and brakes normal by the way.

I need to print something out to show it to them so they can do something about it.

For clarity, does your Canadian Civic VIN fall in the range listed on the TSB, Burrcold?

Just checked my vin, and it doesn't fall in the range. Should I call the dealership anyways and see what's up? It's a pretty serious recall...

However, my fiance's 06' Si does fit into it, and he is not happy.

Honestly, if you know a car doesn't fall in the VIN range, don't bother your dealership. With over 180,000 Civics covered, they're going to be busy taking care of the cars that need the inspection. If you aren't the first owner, you might want to stop in and register yourself as the current owner.

Got my car back. They said they inspected it and found no issues.

Though it looks like they forgot to center punch my damn frame number. (There might be a mark? But it is really faint?) I don't know if it is technically "legal" for me to center punch it on my own so I might have to go back and have them do it...

Should checked but I had a friend drop me off and we had to get going.

No you don't. Just call up the service department and have them run your VIN. It will show up if your car is part of the recall.

I'm afraid to drive anywhere until I get this fixed

all kinds of places I have to go to this weekend but the dealership won't take it in till Monday morning. They used a lot of road salt here last winter...

Exclamation Honda Civic Recall

http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_14766.aspx

180,000 Ontario-Made Honda Civics Recalled Because Of Steering Wheel Concerns
Friday September 14, 2007
CityNews.ca Staff
Chinese-made products have been the subject of several high-profile recalls in 2007, but the latest comes from Canada and is a lot more significant than a toy with too much lead in its paint.

Honda Motor Company announced plans to recall more than 180,000 Civics from the 2006-2007 model year Friday, in an attempt to fix a wheel-bearing seal that could lead to a wheel falling off the car.

Honda spokesman Richard Jacobs says all of the Civics were produced in Alliston, Ontario and that 80 per cent of the Honda vehicles are exported to the U.S.

The concern is that the seal where the antilock brake sensor is mounted to the rear wheel bearing might allow moisture and salt to leak in and cause corrosion.

The recall was sparked by two related complaints, including one in which the wheel came off the vehicle while it was being towed, though no injuries have been reported.

Owners are being notified of the recall and can contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 for more information.

Also Friday, Chrysler announced plans to recall 300,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Commanders because of potential brake trouble.

Ok, So honda was trying to save money by using a Chinese manufacturer of these seals. Think they will do that again?

Apparently this thread needs a bump. It's been reposted several times. Let's try to keep the information in one thread please. I posted this a day before it was even publically released -.-.
