A mod might want to put this link on the first post. Proof from Honda that it's okay to Blame Canada.

No problem. If a mod wants to tack my earlier post with the engine compartment VIN pic onto the head of this thread, that'd be swell, too.

I'm really surprised Honda wants an actual punch mark applied to steel. Does anyone know if this is a government mandated procedure? I've had recall work on non-Honda cars, and the service manager just checked the "Service Performed" box on a screen. The event was logged to the file associated with that car's VIN and recorded electronically, no paint damage required. Maybe the seriousness of this recall makes a difference, as I doubt anyone was killed by a balky VW window regulator.

Where they are talking about putting the punch mark will not have any effect on the car whatsoever. It's just a piece of sheetmetal with your VIN number etched into it.

Thanks so much for the info. Going by the VIN range from the first post I was certain my car was included. Looking at the range in your .pdf, it is not.

Honda is not looking good with the many problems with these Civics. I personally had Power window problems on my way home in Feb 07 with my FA5. All the suspension thuds clunking. Headliner rattles, Sunroof rattles, rear deck rattles. The list just keeps growing.

I rmrmeber picking up my 1st new Honda in 1986. A CRX. What a fun car. NEVER a prob. I put 80k on the car and got my next Honda a 92 Civic Si, no problems, then a 94 Acura GSR again no problems. 97 Prelude no problems, 00 CRV no problems. 03 Civic 4 door no problems. Need I say more?

HONDA get your S%&* together.

My car got dropped off last nite, They gave me an Element as a loaner. Kinda feels like I'm driving one of those NFL mini-helmet cars.

I can't wait to get the 1st call from the dealership this am. Here is a copy of my to-do list for them.

#1 Thud coming from front end when making turns from a stop and low speed. There was a TSB for this.
My VIN isn’t covered, but this has been happening since my car was new.

#2 Rattle from head liner, sunroof and rear deck.

#3 Service Bulletin 07-055 (Vin is covered)

#4 Change Oil

#5 Rotate tires

Couldn't have said it better myself :)

Any Canadian owners scratching their heads right now? The first wheel seperation reported Jan 10, 2007 was in CANADA, yet, the recall does not affect Canadian VIN numbers. Is there a similar Canadian recall out there? Certainly haven't received the "letter", yet! And it is September already!

I think all 2H... VIN's are produced in Alliston, ON, Canada.

Did you see the parts list Honda is sending to service departments? 10 O-rings, 2 disk brake hub bearing units, 1 drum brake hub bearing unit (0 guide pin tools). They aren't expecting to find much wrong, and you can bet that if a mechanic pulls a sensor and can't come up with a part-numbered O-ring, something that's "close enough" will be pulled from the universal O-ring selection to get your car off of his rack.

Here's what I think happened. At the plant, the sensors were being installed without a guide pin tool and/or lube, resulting in O-ring damage. Not every sensor, but enough. This may have been the accepted installation method, or the workers disregarded assembly instructions. Over time, a few trashed O-rings allowed bearing contamination and subsequent wheel separation, prompting an investigation. During the investigation, it was discovered that improper sensor installation was the culprit (whether by design or bad intentions), so every car produced to that point was suspect and subject to recall. All newly produced cars have their sensors installed with the guide tool.

Two interesting points. The front ABS wheel sensor uses an identical mounting method. The FSM has no mention of a guide tool for installation of ABS wheel sensors.

I've become friends with one of the Service Techs at my local Honda dealer. He's been looking up various TSB and recalls for me whenever I ask him. He's working on this one and I have seen the one for the motor mounts.

The letter mentioned above also states that owners will be contacted.
