I took mine in and they said you do not have the problem but we need to keep an eye on it every time you bring the car in for service. WTF
They said there is no problem now but there could be one down the road. WTF
I asked them to just replace it so there is no problem. No we have to wait to there is a problem. So I said - so what you are telling me and all the other Honda owners is that we want your warranty to run out.

IIRC that since it's a recall that the car is covered for this for as long as it's alive.

true, a recall never expires and is always covered under warranty.

I just had my radio head unit replaced under warranty (a small cluster of dead pixels). I just looked at the work order and they REchecked my vehicle for the ABS recall. Once again, all is good.

i can't believe i am still getting flamed for calling you that. when i said "any old" it was in the sense of needing a fork, and any old fork would do,.. not that you WERE old,.. but that,.. you know what,.. whatever. People are people. and my point was, people tend, when working a job for a few years, they tend to trivialize REAL issues because they see a majority of very miniscule problems,. thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt actually. My honda dealership is hit or miss. they fixed my bump stop popping noise thing, but the dolts still couldn't (didn't) fix the damned molding that pops out everytime the pasanger side door is closed, near the seat belt.

but i also want to say... my center cup holder also get hot on long trips, and my 3rd gear is MOST definatly fussy,. and i am not making ANY of this shit up.
i also love my car. it ******* rocks and i found recentyl that the Transformers toys redesigned RUBMLE to a red civic si. if you see an SI in NY that has a decpeticon rear chrome emblem, and license that says RUMBLE8.. honk!

i also SMOKED the shit out of a 2007 gti last WEEK, chump.

Flamed? How? I pointed out something that was said weeks ago, didn't even name the source, and I clearly said why I quoted it (it had nothing to do with you directly). I'll bet you get "flamed" quite a bit, if that's all it takes to trip your flame-o-meter. No need to argue the point; if you feel I flamed you, then by all means, I offer a full apology.

Well it seems my car has been affected with the problem. There is actual corrosion, but not too bad. It seems I will be installing new bearings along with the o-ring.

*************
I have a '06 LX that was manufactured in the US. I know that the civics that came out of the Ohio plant was not part of this new recall but after reading this thread, I got kinda paranoid and decided to examine the rear bearings for myself.

I remove both rear wheels and the brake drums. I held on to the Hub (this is the part where the wheel tightens on to, if i'm correct) with my fingers and started to turn it and notice a difference. This might sound weird but the Hub on the Passenger side has more turning resistance than the one on the driver's side. It still turns freely but the one on the passenger side is more tight. Is this normal? I am concern that the bearing with the resistance will wear out prematurely and therefore come off. I live in Canada where there's a lot of road salt in the winter time.

If anyone has similar problems with their US made civics, feel free to share your findings.

I know that if I call Honda and report this, they will say that my vehicle is not part of the affected units. Is there another route that I can take to remedy this problem or protect myself?

Thanks in advance

Have you looked at whether or not your actual VIN falls in the affected interval?

So I have a question to bring this thread back to life...............

I got the recall notice in the mail like last October I think...well I never got the recall performed on my car. I heard people say people up north should be more concerned about it because of the salt on the roads during the winter or whatever...so my question is should I be trying to get this done ASAP even though I live in the south and don't have snow? I really just haven't had time to drop my car off between school/holidays/work, ect. Anyone that had it done remember how long it took them?

It took them less than a half an hour for me. Tops.

I got it done twice because I felt like being a real dick to one of the dealerships that shafted me one time. Woops.

Personally, I'd get it done. We're more prone up here to have had a wheel fall off, but if you have rain or anything else, it could happen too. Better safe than sorry.

Also, there'll be lots of noise and vibration long before your rear wheel passes you.

sorry to bring this thread back up but I am concerned.

Ive had my abs light recently come on and a squeeking sound from the rear right wheel. I went to the dealer and they said it was the bearing and abs sensor, both together for $300 minus labor.

My car doesnt fall into the range of vins but can I manage to get them to cover this?

If your car isn't in the VIN range and is out of warranty, you can try for good will consideration. If the ABS sensor O-ring failed, leading to bearing failure through contamination, AHC would probably like to know about it, since that may indicate that more cars are affected.

Thought I'd throw this out there:

I did not receive a recall in the mail, but seem to be experiencing this problem, as I noticed a noise that sounds like a bearing going back on the rear drivers side. I started doing research and it took me to this thread. I'm hoping to have my car in on Wednesday to have this fixed. Since it is a recall, I guess I am covered? I am out of the 36,000 mile warranty, but within my "extended" warranty.

Sitting at Honda now getting this noise looked at, which I think is related to this. I had this recall performed a year ago as well it turns out, and they checked it and it was "fine" at the time.

So I guess it is true, we do have to watch it..if that is what the problem becomes.

****
Guess it's true, you do have to watch this thing. My bearing is now bad, and I'm stuck here for the rest of the day as I have no means of getting back and forth.

I just started to hear loud noise from the back of my car and my dad said it might be the wheel bearing as he thinks that's a common problem with Honda. So I went to the dealer to check it out. They actually said the loud noise is not from the wheel bearing but it's from the tire. They said Honda original design of the trailing arm causes weird pattern on the tires which causes the noise. Honda redesigned the trailing arm so they just replaced them under warranty but said since the tires already have those patterns, the noise is not going to go away until I change my tires. Is this the same problem you guys are having? And after thinking about it, if it was Honda's design that's causing the wear on the tire, shouldn't they replace it for free?

I would think that they should, but that doesn't mean that they will. I believe that they are talking about "cupping" of the tire treads.

I think that's what they said: cupping. I didn't understand what they meant by that though. Any idea on how to make them replace them tires for free?
