The TSB clearly states this is a required INSPECTION, with repairs needed only if something amiss is identified during the INSPECTION.

I don't get this logic. (Forgive me if it's already been discussed... I've read much of this thread, but not all of it.) Let's say you bring your car in and they don't find the problem so they don't fix anything... knowing full well of the defect. What are you supposed to do, wait until there's a serious problem? If it's a defect, I think they should just fix it... or am I missing something here?

It may be defective, or it may not. An inspection is required to see if it is defective or not. If it is not then your car never had a problem to begin with, so they just put everything back together and send you on your merry way.

If it is defective then they reinstall it properly and replace damaged parts if necessary.

I just called up my dealership and they said that they won't be getting the parts in until mid october so they couldn't schedule me in for an appointment yet. Should I call again just to get it inspected anyway?

If you have the time to do it, or a friend can pick you up so you don't have to wait I'd say sure.

There likely won't be any damage so I'd go ahead and get them to look at it.

Your wheel falls off. J\K You might hear a rubbing sound. Like when you cranks on your bike needed lube. Almost like when break pads are close to wearing out not so much metal to metal but a minor scraping noise.

I dropped it off at 8 in the morning on a Saturday. They called me at 10:30 to tell me it was done. I checked my Odo just to be sure they didn't take my car for a joy ride.

The actual procedure I am sure doesn't take long at all (assuming no damage). Really someone could do it by themselves in a jiffy (to pull out an odd word) once they have the rear wheels off. However, I wanted Honda to do it so it is documented. (Good to have paperwork with proof of recalls done for resale and what not) If you have people scheduled ahead of you then obviously you might have some trouble.

If I had told them I was waiting at the dealership for the car it would have probably been done quite a bit sooner.

I dunno, this dealership is unusual from most in the area in that their service department is open Saturdays.

Looks like Edmunds caught wind...

I don't want to start shit over this, but you KNOW if this were GM, there'd be people calling for the heads of someone.

I'm still waiting for my dealer to call me when they get the "tools" and "detailed instructions" on how to do it.

They have a week and I'll be nagging at them. I find a severe problem with the potential victim of a recall having to nag at the dealership to get it done.

Hmm, the fact my dealership did it so early is making me feel pretty good about them. (Assuming they did do the service, which I assume they did since the lugs on my rear wheels were ungodly tight when i got it back)

Wheel falling off. Isn't that just a tad over the top. I mean I heard my right rear bearing peril real fast.

But then my wife was driving around in her Escort with the front wheel bearing howling. I heard it coming down the street.

How long has it been doing that? I don't know
When did it start? I don't know
Couldn't you hear that noise. No

I looked up to the heavens and told God he really screwed up with the rib.

I hope folks get this fixed. And for gods sake if a woman you love is driving one. Check it now. If you dislike her. Put ear plugs in.

Some dealerships (other than Honda) have journeymen working on Saturdays.

If the O-ring is OK, than they should be done in a jiffy, but if it is bad, than the repairs will obviously take longer.

Most dealerships don't want to do any recall work on Saturdays because Honda's head office closed. They can do an inspection on Saturday, but for most dealerships, they will only do any work during the week (so they can verify information and get paid).

VelociRacer pm'd me about my earlier VIN post and pointed out that Honda VINs do identify the destination market. Instead of being a dope, I looked in the Factory Service Manual, vol. 1, pg.1-2, h. Serial Number. The Serial Number begins with the 12th VIN character. The 12th VIN character (first character of the Serial Number) does indeed signify USA or Canada market models, but it's a little more complicated than you might think:
==============================================
Civic VIN, 12th Character Destination Market Identifiers
==============================================
'06-'07 Civic sedan (FA1 or FA5) - all trim levels

0 = USA models (produced in USA and Suzuka)
Canada models (produced in Canada)

5 = USA models (produced in Canada)

8 = Canada models (produced in USA)
==============================================
'06-'07 Civic coupe (FG1 or FG2) - all trim levels

5 = USA models (except Si)

7 = USA models (Si)

0 = Canada models (except Si)

1 = Canada models (Si)
==============================================

Based on the above (and the fact that the recall TSB is issued by American Honda Motor Corp.), the recall lists no Canada market models, and a separate TSB for the same issue (with a different VIN range) will likely be issued to cover Canada Civics.

VelociRacer, thanks for your help.
