I replaced the rear bearings on my car before I traded it.

The right rear started making a noise. Pissed off with yet another problem. I ordered the bearings from College Hills Honda I think it was and replaced them my self. The car was still under warranty. I was just sick of having to go there all the time for this and that. I mentioned the replacement in one of my threads concerning my GM'ish Honda.

The O-Ring was puckered out on both wheels. In retrospect I should have let Honda fix it so it would be in there DB.

Good Luck!

for sure its not a hard repair at all, and I thought about doing it myself too. But at the end of the day I want the repair work in their system.

I just called my dealer and they said that it affects

V.I.N # (last 8-digits) 7H000001 -> 7H021722

I own a Civic LX Sedan...

I think this range is different from what's written on this site, which makes me worry a little bit.

I brought my car in today - I scheduled an oil change last week but was unaware of the recall until this weekend. When I told the service manager, he said he didn't hear about it - WTH is up with this? This should have been old news - even my dad asked me about it and he doesn't own a Honda...

we'll see...

yeah it's ridiculous. I had to phone around to like 5 different dealerships until I found one that knew what I was talking about, and when I finally did they gave me crap because I haven't received a letter from Honda yet.

Me too, they asked if I got the letter yet. I'm just gonna bring the service bulletin to them and say "WHAT NOW B*$%$!!"

The Safety Recall TSB is available here. This isn't an internet generated rumor; that's the TSB, and NHTSA has a formal recall letter on file from Honda.

Everyone, please decipher the Mysteries of the Honda VIN before freaking out. If your VIN is covered, get your car to the shop. If it isn't, don't bother the dealership, because they've got plenty of affected cars to inspect.

Update:

VelociRacer pm'd me about my earlier VIN post and pointed out that Honda VINs do identify the destination market. Instead of being a dope, I looked in the Factory Service Manual, vol. 1, pg.1-2, h. Serial Number. The Serial Number begins with the 12th VIN character. The 12th VIN character (first character of the Serial Number) does indeed signify USA or Canadian market models, but it's a little more complicated than you might think:
==============================================
Civic VIN, 12th Character Destination Market Identifiers
==============================================
'06-'07 Civic sedan (FA1 or FA5) - all trim levels

0 = USA models (produced in USA and Suzuka)
Canada models (produced in Canada)

5 = USA models (produced in Canada)

8 = Canada models (produced in USA)
==============================================
'06-'07 Civic coupe (FG1 or FG2) - all trim levels

5 = USA models (except Si)

7 = USA models (Si)

0 = Canada models (except Si)

1 = Canada models (Si)
==============================================

Based on the above (and the fact that the recall TSB is issued by American Honda Motor Corp.), the recall lists no Canada market models, and a separate TSB for the same issue (with a different VIN range) will likely be issued to cover Canada Civics.

VelociRacer, thanks for your help.

Why would you go out of your way to piss off someone that's going to work on your car? This is the equivalent to complaining to your doctor that some medication he prescribed is having an adverse effect, and when they question you about it, you throw some WebMD pages in their face and yell, "Yo! Suck it, B*$%$!"

Calm down. Check to see if your car is affected, print out the TSB, and call your dealership of choice. Discuss the matter with them calmly (give them the TSB number and your VIN), and determine a course of action (bring it in, wait for a letter, etc.). If they want you to wait for a recall letter (and you don't want to), either go elsewhere, or speak with the service manager in person and give them a copy of the TSB. They should be able to verify that the TSB is real, and that your car is affected. If they still choose to disregard you, why would you want to continue using their service department?
