If you're thinking of foglights, don't do it

I've had my EX coupe since December, within the first week the driver side foglight had a deep crack in the lense, within a few weeks the whole lense started to shatter. Honestly, it could have been the heat of the lamp itself that cracked it, or it may have been a small rock that hit the lense, I really don't know which. I called Honda customer service, they were cool and told me to wait for a district manager to call me back. Meanwhile, I just drove to the local dealer, and they were even cooler by quickly replcing the whole assembly. I was happy and figured it likely would not happen again.

Now, 4 weeks later, the new lamp is again cracked even worse this time, and I will admit that it was a rock that must have did it. I called Honda customer service just now, she said that if a rock hit it, then that is not a warranty issue. My argument is that I paid $500 for foglights, and already I have had two of them broken. This product has no durability whatsoever. She said she will log the complaint, then I requested a manager to call me again.

Now, I just want Honda to remove the lights, this will only keep happening. I live in Sacramento, which is not a rural area, and I would imagine that these lights should have some strength behind them, but they don't. I paid all this money to only get 1-4 weeks of use out of it. Ridiculous. We'll see what they say when I start bitching. I don't even think I could just have them removed because the install requires the hole to be cut, and removal will just leave an open hole in a car I've had for a very short time. So, save the trouble everybody and don't go for the OEM fogs--Brian

i know this doens't help your situation, but i would advise getting the clear protective film installed on the fog lights. Its not 100% better but it will prevent the smaller rocks from destroying your lamp. Good luck with your situation and keep us up to date on the outcome.

Which is exactly why I didn't order mine from the dealership. I wasn't about to pay $230+ for them when they're on ebay for $80 knowing they can be shattered by small rocks. There really is no way of protecting them 100%, but I'm thinking of covering them with lexan and using a clear high temp glue to keep it together.

Yikes. That sucks, and I'm sorry to hear about your fogs. A couple other people have complained about cracks and broken lenses. If you do get Honda to replace them again, I'd suggest doing like twisted and skittle said, and get the laminant put on. That'll help protect them from any more rocks.
Good luck, whatever happens.

You know, when they take them out, you'll be left with some big holes in your bumper... Headlight installation requires cutting holes through the bumper cover.

fog lights

Paid a way to much for my Honda Fog lamps on my 06 Civic. Lasted only 3 months before mine also were cracked. A VERY poor investment.

You can also buy replacement fog light assemblies right from Honda.

Not seeing how lexan shows. I've done this before and uh...it's clear. Now plexiglas....THAT might show and distort light. But if you wanna spend $45 to do it, be my guest.

Sorry to hear about your foglight lenses. I recommend putting some www.lamin-x.com on them. I've had my fogs on my car for 5 months 15,000 miles with absolutly no problems at all with them cracking.

My fog lights on my '01 Civc were the exact same way, didn't take long for a rock to put a tiny little hole in it and then from there it began to shatter. The lenses on those stupid things are pathetically thin and Honda needs to address that.

is this a big enough problem?? how may other people are experiencing this?

i placed an order for an 06 si and i got thefogs for it as well. I had the fogs on my 2000 and they are still mint. Could it be coincidental or are the newer fogs cheap?

i like the way the car looks with them, but on the other hand i dont want busted fogs either.

If it's any consolation, all of the dc-5 owners had this same with their cars. The foglights are simply just cheapy made. I had a set on my last EM2 civic and they lasted just fine. My advice would be to invest in some of the 80.00 foglights on ebay(maybe even inquire the seller for another set w/out the wiring or bulbs) and get some of the lamin-x to cover it up.

Good luck man!

Glad I read this. I just got a set of clear 40mil protectors. It's $20 shipped, a small price to pay for the fog light investment.

Cool its pretty simple to cut the ovals out of it. Make sure you only use 1 layer. Also, if you give the car/big truck with huge tires in front of you some room and don't ride ass is another precautionary from getting rocks thrown up on your car..

I appreciate all the feedback guys. I still have not yet heard back from the district manager for AHM, but believe me I plan on bitching. My point I am trying to make here is that for a $500 price tag, I would expect the product to have a "reasonable" level of quality and durability. These lights have proven to not be able to withstand normal daily driving conditions, which can be looked at as poor workmanship and/or materials, which in turn is a warranty issue. This is the second lamp I have on now, and it is broken after 4 weeks, the first lamp broke in 1 week. They are mounted on the lowest part of the front end, and Honda should sell a product that can withstand common road conditions.

However, I can see myself bitching to managers and dealerships, but in the end buying another foglight out of pocket. I just want both lights removed, but the holes in the bumper are already cut, and there is no going back unless I buy a whole new bumper. So, this lamin-x stuff mught be a good solution, can someone give me their experience with lamin-x? Thanks--Brian
