Can someone please answer this. Its a odometer question.

I'm a new driver, so i need someone's help. I think the odometer in my 07' Civic sedan is fast. Is this possible? I believe this cause sometimes, i feel like i drove only 2 miles, but in the car it says i drove more. Another reason, I use a portable GPS, and it says to get to a certain location, it is only 5.4 miles away, but when i arrive there, My car says like 7 miles on it.

Is this a common problem, or is my GPS just wrong in calculating the distance?
How can i solve this problem?
Please help

Get onto a major highway and locate the mileage markers on the side of the road. They are usually posted in 1/10 mile increments. Clear your odometer and see if they agree.

I feel the same way dude. I enever thought of the above ideas! I am going to do that. IIRC the 04/05 civics had fast odometers. I hope we dont have that problem

there was a recall at one point for the 06's i know saying that the odometer is a lil fast. they are extending the warrenty a litlle bit. i think its very small so you would not know the difference just driving 2 miles tho.

I live in S. California and there are lots of Freeways and I have never seen any mileage markers on the side of the road. Has anybody living in S. California seen any such markers on the road?

A lot of Honda's had a warranty extension (that I have no doubt I'll have to fight to the death to get them to honor) because the odometer is fast. I think it was like 5% increase or something.

Well, must be some weird S. California thing then; because of the 5 states I've lived in, they have all had them. Utah, Nevada, Montana, Michigan, and Kansas; seems odd to me that California wouldn't have mile markers on the road.

Well. . . I guess this site verifies:

http://www.cahighways.org/num-postmiles.html

If you scroll down to where it talks about Mile Markers.

dunno, but i got my car with 10 miles from the dealer, with 0 on the trip... so my actual miles should be 10 miles or more different if i hit reset at some point. right? well figure this one out... my trip meter is only 1 mile less than my odometer... something is correct...

i mean prolly dont answer ur question, but just a fun fact to throw in here.

GPS is not a straight line, but it does estimate the distance, just like mapquest. I would never take GPS's word for it. Try the interstate, they all should have markers.

Just did a test with my wife's Acura RL 02. Went on a straight line stretch of 1.2 miles and did it with my r18 and both showed the exact same 1.2 miles. So if our civics are suppose to be off by 5%, I should have had a discrepancy of about 100 yards. Unless the 02 Acura RL is also off by 5%????

Yap, your right. I just checked it out and 02 Acura was included in the lawsuite. So I would need to do the same test with a non-Honda car and see what the results would be.
