300 miles isn't going to kill anything.

I'm no mechanic or engineer but I wouldn't worry about it. But if you are, and it sounds like you are, drive back to the dealership tomorrow or at least call their service manager and complain.

Id have them change it at some point but is not that big of a deal. The only situation where the 5w-30 is better is in high heat. So just don't track it until u switch. Knocking would not be caused by this... What kind of knocking r u talking about?

a weird extra sound from the engine...

its an additional thudding sound besides the injectors, while the vehicles idling. Its a popping sound...mild but can be heard along with the injectors.

No shaky vibrations while idling though....idle feels day 1 smooth.

go to your dealer and demand they replace the entire engine immediatly, You now have a ticking time bomb waiting to go off! Your whole car is going to catch fire.

If you really want to know.

Ok Here is a quote from the websight listed below:

"Most people are familiar with oil's viscosity rating—10W40, for example. However, very few may know that the "W" refers to "winter," not "weight." And most of us have no idea what the weight-rating numbers actually mean other than that the vehicle's manufacturer specifies a particular viscosity."

and

For technoids, weights are defined thusly (stokes and centistrokes are measurements of viscosity):

"SAE 30 is SAE 30 no matter what the "W" prefix number is: 0W, 5W or 10W. This viscosity in centistokes (cSt) @ 100 degrees C is with the minimum of 9.3 cSt and a maximum of 12.5 cSt.

"SAE 40 is SAE 40 no matter what the "W" prefix number is: 5W, 10W, 15W or 20W. The viscosity @ 100 degrees C is within the minim of 12.5 cSt and a maximum of 16.3 cSt.

"SAE 50 is SAE 50 no matter what the "W" prefix number is: 5W, 10W, 15W or 25W. The viscosity @ 100 degrees C is within the minimum of 16.3 cSt and a maximum of 21.9 cSt.

"SAE 60 is SAE 60 no matter what the "W" prefix number is: 10W, 15W or 25W. The viscosity @ 100 degrees C is within the minimum of 21.9 cSt and a maximum of 26.1 cSt.

If This intrest you you poor poor man the websight is:

http://www.automedia.com/Oil/Viscosity/ccr20010101ov/1

When I was younger, almost 20 years ago now, I took an engine mechanics class. The prof. discussed viscosity for two hours.(I'm not kidding) I think he must have done this webpage cause after page seven I got bored.

From what I read the info is sound, but personally I think there are too many ads on this site, but you get what you get.

The dealer did the same thing to my civic. I got it changed just before I drove it out of town on a business trip. I had them fix it the next weekend when I got back. I was upset, but no worries about the engine.

It's no biggie. It's practically the same oil.

I've put in 5w-30 a few time in my R18, still running.

actually the SI is supposed to have 5 20 not 5 30 like the r18 civic so you are perfectly fine.
