Your first oil change....

well, just completed my first oil change after fiddling with the factory filter for AN HOUR!, when i finally got it off, it looked like swiss cheese...i couldnt tell you how many times i stabbed that sucker with a screwdriver...they werent kidding when everyone said the factory put it on there damn tight....i replaced it with a K&N $12 filter :) and the oil to 5W30 MOBIL1 Synthetic...should be alot healthier for the engine!

The salesperson said to just bring the car in for the first oil change when the oil life is at 10%. By then, it will probably be 5k miles. Is this the right thing to do?

Well ive heard that the oil shipped with the car is "break in oil". If thats the case, go by what your manual says, not the dealer. I think it says around 5k though.

Changed mine super early 1200 miles and put the 5/30 reg. oil in. Its good to change the oil very soon even though they say in 5k. I will put a min. of 10k before switching to Mobil 1. Let everything realy seal and break in before putting that slippery oil in there. Also I put the Castrol oil in this first time.

Honda doesn't care how frequently you change the oil...... AFTER THE FIRST OIL CHANGE. They pretty much beg us not to change the oil before the computer tells the customer to do so. This is because the Oil from the factory honestly does have a special additive in it to coat internal parts. They claim its very important to leave it in for the full 100% which is usually 5-7K miles. I waited the advised period before my first change but I hated every mile of it.

I didnt want to open a "new" thread about First Oil Change,

Heres my question: I have 7,020 miles right now with 10% oil life. Im going to make the appoinment for this Wednesday.

This is my first service. Is it just an Oil Change or are they going to do more stuff to the car?

Please Advice. Thanks

they will do an oil change, check fluid levels and tire pressure. basically the stuff your "supposed to do" while you fill up gas.

you should have changed your oil at 5k but anyway they will most diff. rotate the tires as well. You may want to consider changing your oil every 5k and rotating your tires at that time. Also doing this yourself or having a local mech that does not charge as much as the dealer would be my advice. It has nothing to do with your warr. either. Save your time and money and don't use the dealer for anything that they charge for. Oil changes and tire rotations are simple do it yourself thing or simple for any mechanic to do. Make sure you put 5/30 oil in your car. I use castrol. After putting 10k on your car you can go with synthetic oil but I don't use it. Castrol 5/30 is fine. Don't wait for the oil life to say 10 per cent if you get to 5k change it.

My manual on an 07 FA5 says Maintenance A (First Oil Change) at 3750 miles. The dealership said they'd throw in the first oil change for free, does anyone know if they will put in the oil of my choice or only Honda Branded Oil?

How high do you have to lift the car to get to the oil filter? I couldnt reach it with just my floor jack. I have always changed my own oil. Now I have a brand new Si and people tell me the warranty, the warranty don't do it yourself, the warranty. What Honda is going to break down cause I changed my own oil. Besides I don't have the money to pay someone else to do it.

You can change the oil yourself and it will still be under warranty, however, you need to keep the oil and oil filter receipts and mark the date and mileage at the time of the change in your service manual that came with the car.

Yea what the guy above me said plus that would not be correct as it is illegal and pretty much monopolizing of the car.
As long as the filter and oil meet or exceed the specification by Honda its perfectly fine.
