Hand / Shifter
I just read from some one in "Foot / Clutch" thread saying that if you rest your hand on your shifter while driving, it will damage your gear box. Just like if you rest your foot on clutch, it will damage your car too.
Is it true??!! Damn! I leave my hand on the shifter 75% of the time... Is my gear box doomed?!?! OMFG... |

If the transmission needed the weight and force applied to it the car would have a weight built into the lever. No, you shouldn't rest your hand on the shift lever. The gears are meant to align with the lever "floating" in it's selected position, not pushed to a different position. That alters the wear pattern. Both hands should be on the wheel.

I shift into gears with almost a flick of the wrist. Very gentle movement is all it takes and I never keep pulling on it like you do... |
