Foot / Clutch

I've read somewhere that your foot is supposed to be completely off the clutch pedal when not in use. I've read couple posts about how its supposed to be off when cruising, but i need a 2nd opinion.

If i just leave my foot slightly rested on the clutch while im accelerating, does this add more wear to the clutch? (Im not putting alot of weight on the clutch pedal but maybe resting my foot on there)

I believe when you're resting your foot lightly on the cluth you are engaging the throwout bearing against the clutch spring so that it's acctually spinning when it shouldn't. I did this too on my last car and after understanding more about the clutch mechanics have never rested my foot on the clutch pedal.

The clutch is a very sensitive piece of machinery. You can already tell when you use it during daily driving that it's a very precise piece of equipment, so it's best to be off it as much as possible and let it do it's work. If it's not fully engaged or fully disengaged there is some slippage going on and over time will wear it down.

Same with leaving your hand resting on the shifter while driving. It causes some movement within the gearbox that also contributes to wear.

wikipedia said you are riding your clutch even if you rest your foot on the clutch when you are just coasting.

and we all know riding the clutch = death.

Omfg, are you serious? I leave my hand on my shifter 75% of the time...! Damn, my gear box is doomed!

Clutch Rule?

Do you ever smell it? I mean, when you rest your foot on it?

Rule of Thumb when it comes to the transmission. You want to spend the least amount of time touching the shifter and clutch.
