rocks & a/c condenser = bad ay

me and the wife left sat. to head to memphis - kicked on the a/c and no cold air came out. took the car to the closest dealer - they found a tiny hole in the condenser. of course they said it was not covered under the warranty.
so now when i have it replaced i think i'm gonna install some black mesh behind the factory grill opening. Any thoughts????????

That should be under warranty since it isn't a normal wear item. I would suggest getting the warranty information from a dealership and if they will not give it to you go straight to Honda.
I work at a GM dealership and items like A/C are covered under normal warranty as long as you are below the warranty millage.
If you do find that it is covered you should contact Honda and complain about the service you got at that dealership doing this usually gives the dealership that denied you warranty a big rap on the knuckles.

Most makes/models carry A/C as a warranty item since it is not a normal wear and tear item.

Hope that helped

I agree. Call up the manager and speak with him, if nothing there call the next step up.

how did it get a rock chip in there? I heard someone said this current model the grill is very open and things could get it. If you can show us where the condensor is at maybe we can add a mesh at the grill or soemthing

good news

first off thanks for the response, i'm more worried about how the mesh will look than i am the replacement of the condenser. i've always thought mesh grills were kind of tacky. has anyone put one in yet. any pics?? good thing for me i work at the acura dealer here and the last time i went to school i had our area dspm for honda in my class. made a call to her and got it covered. however if anyone else has this happen - i'll give you the load that was told to me. "because the damage is not a defect and caused by outside influence it will not be covered under warranty. you can of course call you insurance company for assistance. it's just like if you had a rock hit the windshield and it cracked."

If I were you I would be on the phone with American Honda getting this problem resolved. There is no reason for you to pay for the cost or replacing the condensor out of your own pocket. American Honda's # is 1 (800) 999 1009. I would speak to one of their CSR's and they can authorize the dealer to make the necessary repair.

I am having the same issue.

I was very happy with my car until last week. I tried to switch the ac on.... and noticed no cold air. I left on for about 20 min still it wont blow cold air. I checked all the controls and made sure it was at cold ( blue colour)tem setting. I will be taking it to the dealer to get that checked. ...

Any advices are welcome

Thanks,
John

how many miles are on the vehicle? we have seen some new cars that did not have any freon it them from the factory, it could have slipped thru pdi. when this happened with mine i was hoping that was the problem.

There must be something seriously wrong with Honda if the cars are coming from the factory with no freon. Before you buy your vehicle the dealership is suppose to do a new car check making sure that everything is fuctional. I wonder how many dealers actually do this today! If your having A/C problems I would definately contact American Honda about this issue.

i got the new condenser put in today. while they had the bumper off i was able to install some black mesh behind the opening in the center of the bumper. i sure hope this prevents this from happening again. i sure as hell don't want to pay for the next condenser. thanks for all the feed back guys.

Think you could take some pics for us to look at? I may be looking at the same solution so this doesn't happen to me

nope just found a sheet on ebay for 15 bucks ($25 after shipping). cut it out and zip tied on the back side of the bumper. there is plenty left. i've been thinking out putting on the back side of the upper grill as well. you can see parts of the condenser and radiator as well, the good thing is that i can get to it with out removing the whole bumper. ******note****** if anyone is going to do this for looks do not use the black mesh - you can not see it unless your 6 inches from it. here is the site on e-bay that i bought the mesh from if anyone wants it. sorry legendman - i have yet to figure out how to condense my pics to fit on his site - i tried to post some pics of the hole in the condenser and it told me they were to big.

if you have ever turned on your a/c in the middle of winter - it can feel like the a/c is working - it is very easy to miss a/c concerns during winter seasons.

same problem with me. only, honda won't cover it and I've been through three different people. The service manager and general manager at the dealer, and two CSR at Honda Care in Cali. I've been researching the problem on various honda websites (carspace, etc.) and have discovered it is a problem for Honda. I was told by the last CSR that Honda wouldn't cover the repairs because I do not qualify. I asked why I didn't "qualify" and was told it was because I have not prior history with the company(this is my first honda vehicle). I am ticked off big time

This is a common problem and believe it or not, the honda element has this happen practically all the time.

People are installing home gutter cover material in front of their condensors with good success.

I think is about $6 or $7 dollars, you can cut it to size I believe then use plastic zip ties to keep it on.
