can't shift into 1st?
So I was at a stop light today and tried to go into first but it wouldn't go in?
I had to try like 6 times till it finally slammed in...this happened in my older integra too...whats the cause of this problem? anyone else experience this? |

Check your tranny fluid...Only thing I can think...Did it happen more than once? Is this a consistent problem?

I've had it happen to me a few times, but also in different gears when I first had the car for the first 2 weeks. Afterwards, it seemed to go away. Maybe it needs breaking in? lol Just keep driving it and if it keeps doing it after a week or 2. I'd bring it to the dealership.

Had it happen to me a few times. Just place the XMSN in neutral, release the clutch, rev the engine a little bit, push the clutch in, and slide it into first.
I think its just the dog teeth are not in direct correlation with the dog teeth that engage the driven gear. If the gears are not spinning, the synchros can not do their job either. Hence placing the XMSN in neutral and giving the engine a slight rev/blip of throttle with the clutch engaged. Depress the clutch and place it in gear. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/transmission1.htm should give you an idea of how this works. |

This is normal and something that happens on every manual transmission. Don't slam the shifter next time just let the clutch out in neutral and try again, it'll go in this time. To not have it happen put the car in 1st as your coming to a stop and going about 1 to 2 mph.

uhmmm if you downshift thru the gears when coming to a stop, it will keep this from happening in all gears. say you are in forth coming to a stop... downshift to 3rd, let it roll, and right before a stop just hold the clutch in and go thru 2nd and 1st. trust me, this used to happen to me, but as long as i go thru the gears most of the time when i come to a stop, its fine. mine slides into first without any effort at all.
