CEL with race header installed

I installed the DC race header and after about a tank the CEL came on. The light doesn't bother me, but will it affect my car in anyway? For example, will the computer make my car run differently? If it doesnn't affect my car then I'll leave it, or I'll go defouler.

you've gotta use the search button. there's plenty of threads about the DCRH and the CEL. but go buy a defouler is the simple way.

I've already searched, thanks for the help. What I want to know is if it is safe driving with the CEL light on when I know it is cause by the race header.

Your fine driving with it on, the code being thrown is just to let the mechanic know that your catalytic converter is not functioning (in this case you don't have one). This does not change the way the car runs at all, it's purely informational.

I don't believe the CEL that is thrown will have any effect on your performance. However, I mean obviously if there are other error codes, you won't be able to tell.

Agreed. I've driven with CELs before, knowing it was my intake, but you never feel at ease with that light on. My fog light switch is orange and sometimes I get a panic attacking thinking the orange light in that corner is a CEL. The defouler isn't expensive or anything. Just buy a pre-drilled one and use it.

Yes go to any auto parts store and buy a non fouler mine was like 4 bucks,You dont want to leave that engine light on because if you have another problem you wont even know about it because you were to lazy to just buy the non fouler and put it on, It could lead to a very expensive problem.

This is true the car reverts to a default instead of using the sensors to gauge how much fuel to burn to the o2.

I actually do have the non-defouler...it's just I was wondering if it was worth the "hassle" to get it on. But im likely to going to get it in just to not risk anything...it's a peace f mind to know that I wasn't running with a weakening engine though.

There was a sponsor(Strutking) who was selling the de-foulers but the goverment supposedly is cracking down on them because of what the de-fouler does.

I too have a BCRH but I made my own angled de-fouler by using a 3/8" "street" 90 & the spark plug non fouler(Help brand part number 42009). It does require some fabwork but it only cost me about $7 in the end.
