For better engine response..

Clean your maf sensor! I've seen it mentioned a few times before on the forum, especially concerning the injen cai.

I finally got a CEL with my injen after a year. I reset it twice but it kept coming back within a day.

I cleaned my air filter with a kit and then sprayed down the maf sensor with some electrical cleaner and all i have to say is WOW at the difference.

maybe it's just my imagination, but i swear the car idles better, shifts easier, less throttle lag, less burpy acceleration at times! one thing is for sure though, it got rid of the cel...

just letting people know!

maybe just cleaning the filter helped a lot. I mean both are very good things to clean but most likely a clean air filter makes worlds of difference.

Its always a good idea to clean the throttle body (and MAF, etc..,) periodically. If you ever take the intake tube from the throttle body and open the butterfly, you'll see what I mean...lot's of varnish and carbon buildup. Just be sure you use air intake and throttle body cleaner, NOT carb cleaner. use a toothbrush and get up in there. Be forewarned though that all that shit will run down the intake and your car will 1)be tough to start, and 2)will belch white smoke for 10-20 seconds while it burns out the cleaner.
I've found its better on starting if you've wedged the butterfly open for a hour or so and let the cleaner try and evaporate from the intake tract.

nice. good call. i'll try that next time i get around to cleaning the filter/maf.

i just used a CRC brand, i think every autozone or checkers etc has em. it's called electrical component cleaner or something. u don't do any rubbing cuz it will damage the very fragile maf sensor. u just spray at it (and it will evaporate in seconds also).

The maf sensor is connected to the intake system to measure how much air is flowing through the engine so the ECU can determine how much fuel to add.

Is the cause of the CEL the maf sensor or air filter or is it both?

I had a CEL on my EX for months after I installed an Injen CAI. I couldn't figure out what was causing it, but now I have a feeling that all I had to do was clean the MAF sensor. I might have got grease or dust on it during the install. I even took it out once to look at it, but it looked fine. I got so tired of looking at the stupid CEL I decided it was time trade for an Si.

you first (un)-screw her(2 phillips)...then you 'pull out' the plug (electrical connection)...then you spray it all over her (maf electrical sensors)

Apparently some of us (I included) that keep asking the same question over and over, do not know exactly where to look for. A pictur may be? And please do not insult us with your sarcasm.
