Found out today my transmission is probably going to be replaced.

I posted another thread a couple days ago about hearing a whistling noise in 4th gear. Well I took it in today (06 Si with only 1,000 miles on it) and was informed that I might need my transmission replaced. They believe that my synchro is bad. I've always had a tougher time shifting into 3rd gear (especially when the car is cold), and it's caused me to miss the gear a few times and grind the gear.

So I'm not too happy about this, brand new car and I have a problem with the transmission. On top of that, I've never been able to set the cruise control. I also have a deformity on a little piece of carpet by the driver's side and I'm having the whole carpet replaced at the same time. I'm going to write a letter to Honda and let them know of my problems, cause this is bullshit.

My car is still driveable and fine for now, but I'll let you all know what happens after I find out exactly what the problem is when I take it back in to get repaired.

Wow! This is definitely a rarity for Honda. Sounds like they're going to take pretty good care of you though. Replacing the tranny, the carpet, etc. All of that's being covered under warranty I would assume...
Keep us updated on the progress, and good luck.

Out of curiosity, do you know where your civic was manufactured? On the Edmonds boards the problem 06 coupes are coming from the Alliston plant in Canada. They posted the phone number over there due to the number of serious issues people are having.... 2 people with loose windshields, and a third saying the caulk around windshield is already coming off. (In addition to other problems) Dealers having to fix this stuff are saying they have never seen anything like it. One has agreed to giving a new car. Her rear windshield separated at rear right pillar enough to raise it up off the car. Only 900 miles on it.

Damn Canadians!! J/K! I hope mine comes from Japan as the dealer said it would be. That really sucks about those cars. I will be sure to look at the car over before i take it from the dealer.

Hm,I hear a weird whining noise, like whistleing in my auto. I wonder if its just winding up or what is it normal? i wish mine came from Japan instead of Canada.

Yeah, I have a small whistling noise at times, but it didn't strike me as anything unusual. I need to stop hanging around this place...all it does is make me paranoid!

the only whining i hear in my auto is in first/second gear... when i first heard it i was not afraid of defect at all because all ford transmissions make this noise especially in the mustangs.... i had figured it to be a normal operating noise... but just in case, i still have 3 yrs/36,000mi so i am not worried....

Mine is from Alliston. Do you know which post has the phone number or do you have the phone number? I would love a new vehicle, but I don't know how to swing that.

I would like to, but I doubt they will do it. I am sure they will want to try to fix it first before they give me a new car. Who knows... I did just finish writing a 2 page letter to the dealership I bought it from and I'm cc'ing it to American Honda Motor Co. So we'll see what happens.

Link to Honda Canda Info

I am not sure in your case what you can do but I totally sympathise. In this person's case she has had three major "safety issues". I read all of posts as we were posting about different things but at the same time. Boards are set up different there and not as active.

Summary: the one getting a replacement vehicle: Purchased car in Nov/Dec; has had an airbag recall, the accelerator pedal, then windshield pops up. A little over 900 miles. Dealer doesn't blame her for wanting out of the car at this point. Her case doesn't even strictly fall into the lemon law category but they want to make it right. In fact she is stating the dealership is contacting Honda regional reps as they don't want to sell cars where this could happen.

Here is link to thread. I had rather people read posts first hand. I didn't want to post Honda's Canada # as I am not sure if your moderator will allow that. I am new here and have gotten help myself and appreciate that. I hope links to other boards are OK. My apologies in advance if not.

It is the Civic Coupe 06 thread most recent pages 29-31. The # and address is on post 584

If you look for posts by willowct, Imissmy95LX and manashtash you can see three different people reporting on same problem.

This upsets me too because this kind of stuff is basic quality control. I love Hondas. The best car I have ever had is my Acura sitting next to new 06 Civic. Has only broken down once in 11 years (alternator) - its a 90 BTW.

I know it's my own fault for reading these boards.....and I am probably fine and I have a great car, but now I can't help now but check under my car for oil leaks, hope it starts in the morning, and pray when I hit a bump something doesn't fall off. It's like I picked the darn thing up an auction.

Cool, thanks. I was looking around on the forums and couldn't find exactly the messages you were talkign about. Their message boards kind of suck.

What you have to remember is that even though you're reading about these crappy problems, for every ticked off owner with a problem there is probably 80 or 90 whose cars are perfectly fine. I don't think I'll have a problem with getting my issues resolved, if I can't get a new car (which I highly doubt will happen) I should be able to get some free crap (free body kit?). :)

To my understanding, no more are being sold from Japan. My dealer said I got the last from one from Japan, that was about 4-5 months ago. Easy way to check is to see if the vin number starts with a number or a j, only the Japanese ones start with j. I think the Hybrids are made in Japan, not sure, those are probably the only ones still being brought over.

I think all coupes sold in North America are Candian, from what I understand, and I could be wrong, only sedan were brough over from Japan and only sedans are being made in Canada, but agian not 100% on that.

Does anyone have a link that tells you about your VIN? Now I'm interested to know where my vehicle was made.
