using different oil filter

I've done it on a Jeep before...but this isn't a jeep lol

I have a lot of the old Honda filters. they are bigger and wider than the ones that are used today(ph3593A fram #) The new ones, which they have changed over for quite some time is skinnier and smaller. but they both fit in the screw hole. honda/hyundai have used them in their vehicles(that I know of) so Im guessing it is ok to use the bigger filter?

I'm not looking for better performance...I'm just looking NOT to spend money on the smaller filter when i have 30 of the bigger OEM honda filters sitting around

i think your fine, my 95 accord used to take those larger filters, but when it got serviced by honda they put the skinny filters on, so i think they are the same where it matters and it should work.

I've used larger filters on my past cars (all domestic). Although this is my first Honda, I don't see where using the larger filter would cause a problem as long as the following criteria are met:

1. The threads are the same
2. The gasket on the filter meets the mounting plate on the block in the appropriate place.
3. Larger filter = more oil needed, don't forget to check to be sure your oil level is up in the safe zone.

they probably went to the smaller design cause it was cheaper to make

if they can save even 25 cents on every filter, multiplied by how many they sell to dealers and individuals its still a lot of money
