SI check engine light (CEL) - mods?

So my check engine light just came on, right after wash/waxing my car, while I was accelerating onto an onramp.

Mods are Injen CAI, Tanabe Touring, and about a week ago I just installed the DC race header with a magnaflow highflow cat.

So the race header/cat has been on for a week, and the CEL just came on.

What do I do? Do I reset the ECU? Take it to the dealer? Or take it to my local performance shop? The car seems to be running fine, but a bit slower than usual and the gas mileage is crap.

The manual says if the CEL comes on and I continue to drive, I could damage the engine...

Anyone have experience with a CEL + hiflow cat on these cars? The cat is CARB and EPA legal...

Still have your stock header and exhaust? Put those back on to see of CEL clears. If that doesn't help, take off the rest of your mods. If it's still a no go, take it to the dealers. Better be safe than sorry.

I suspect your header though. Poor gas mileage is not a good sign, just how bad?

With a CEL on, your engine can only be damaged if it's related to something that can physicall damage it. Removing your CAT will produce a CEL but nothing horrible will happen to the engine.

I don't have time to put the stock manifold back on.

The cat is not removed, there is a highflow cat installed.

Anyone know if this would happen with a highflow cat too?

Take it to a place that can scan the code. Without knowing what the code is for there's no way to tell you what is going on and what is causing it.

A high-flow cat should not cause a CEL.

From the sounds of it, and I speak from a LOT of experience on this, if you were accelerating onto the highway (or on the highway) and the CEL came on my money is towards the Injen CAI causing it. You would be the 7th or 8th person on this forum alone that has now had this problem with the CAI and the highway. The code will say there is a rich condition, and it will go away within a matter of hours or a day or two.

Check to see what the code is and we can help you out a lot more, but from the sounds of your condition it is IDENTICAL to what others are now reporting with the Injen CAI.

Good luck.

took it to the shop, codes cleared. Was just the 2nd o2 sensor. Need to move it behind the cat. Installed a defouler, so far so good!
