A gear grinding story

I, like so many others, have experienced the gear grinding problems in my Si. I read a post on Edmunds where some guy said "that's just the way Honda builds em, just push your clutch all the way to the floor before shifting"

Well, I was *SURE* I was already doing that, but when I started really paying attention, I noticed I was shifting with the clutch pedal somewhere in mid-flight, but close to the floor. Ever since I really started paying attention, no more grinding, even at 8200RPM quick shifts. Thought this might help some of you out.

yeah i drove my car hard tonight and grinded the **** out of 2nd gear twice. it feels like 2nd gear is alot harder to get into than other gears.. but yeah.. all the way to the floor wont cause it to grind..this grinding is caused by us tryin to get into 2nd before we engage the clutch all the way

That's no fun! But I respect you not wanting to trash your transmission. I'm slowly pulling myself away from shifting hard and riding it to redline every single time I pull out of a stop light. I just can't help it sometimes, it's so much fun haha.

Yeah, 2nd's hard to get smoothly, it feels sharp and unforgiving, as opposed to my 3rd, which suddenly seems uberly forgiving -- it only pops out when I'm shifting OUT of gear. I used to get chirps on semi-smooth shifts to 2nd, but I attribute that to crap tires that take a bit to bite. New wheels don't really chirp, they just GRAAAAAAAAAB.

Haha, yeah, ever since I got my intake I can't keep my foot out of the gas because it sounds so good. The header/exhaust just made my situation worse though.

people who experience the gear grind issue, experience it with the clutch fully depressed.

The isue arises from the design of the transmission, not the operation of the clutch.
