Check Fuel Cap... Check Fuel Cap...

CHECK FUEL CAP... CHECK FUEL CAP...

Does anyone else see this CHECK FUEL CAP message on your LCD? even when the fuel cap is closed?

Since today, my civic started displaying the message.

So, i dropped by the dealer to seee what was going on.

First, they asked me the last date I refilled the gas tank.

So i asnwered them 2 days ago.

Then, they told me that there is a fuel sensor in the oil tank and blah blah.

and the messege should disappear in 2 days...

so i thought.. wait a min.. i refill my gas tank every 2 - 3 days...

so whenever i refill my gas tank.. my car will display the messege again?

and all i can do is to hope it will disappear some day..?

for sure, there is nothing wrong with the sensor?

their answer was a bullsh$t.... really WTF?

i asked them again if this is NORMAL OR NOT..

they refused to answer my question..

instead, they just told me to wait for another WEEEK until it disappears..

if it continues to display.. then bring it back to the shop...

Anyone else has this problem??

So they're not going to do anything about it? Sounds like some wiring went bad, how hard could it be for them to fix it? That's frustrating.

I had that once due to the gas station attendant not putting the cap on correctly (cant pump your own gas in NJ). Of course I put the cap on correctly as soon as the indication came up shortly afterwards. Anyhow, i read somewhere it should go out on it's own after a few miles or startups or whatever, but many miles and startups later it was still there. Finally figured out you have to reset it yourself. I forget what exactly I did as it was well over a year ago, but I took care of it messing with the buttons to the left of the wheel where you change your odometer display and all.

edit---n/m....just realized it was an ongoing problem for you. probly a sensor or wiring.

thx i think you are right, i did some googling on the issue. the messege should disappear in 2-3 days, or in a week.. or 2 weeks for some people. Honda claims that it is not a problem. so yeah.. thx

mines stayed on for a whole week even though i always make sure it clicks a few times when i put the gas cap on. It went away by itself, but it's so annoying.

Are you hearing the gas cap click everytime you fill up? If not you should. Try unplugging the battery for a few minutes, then clicking your gas cap, then start her up again. I know that works on Toyotas, but not sure about Hondas... can't hurt to try.

^ yeah that, I checked my rubber seal on the gas cap and it was all torn up....wtf material did they use if it gets eaten by gas vapor???
I did not have the warning message though, I saw the broken seal when I was refueling.

So NoMoreHonda make sure the seal is good and if it broken ,since you are from Toronto stop by the Alliston Honda Plant and tell them personally thats not cool...

Yeah, had it on my 2006 Civic. After I tightened the gas cap it stopped (after 2 days). One of those don't put your toaster in the bathtub type of warnings.

read in teh manual that it can take several days for the message to disappear

its annoying, as i ALWAYS turn it passed one click (now i'll do 2 clicks)

but, i really have no confidence, as the cap was on there fully and the message came on

stupid canadian built civics!!

Manufacturers started putting this symbol on the dash recently because so many people were bringing their car back to the dealer when the "check engine" lamp illuminated for this. Of course the mechanically deficient (95% of the general population) wrongly presumed a real problem. Those same people never removed the owners manual from the glove box, let alone read it so this is an attempt to eliminate some returns. Looks like it didn't work huh??

it's been 5 days.. i still have the warning message.. i checked the honda civic manual. it says i can clear the warming message by holding the reset button until it disappears. it NEVER worked. so thinking of bringin back to the dealer. this is annoying me so much. just another disappontment from honda.

I seem to remember reading a Honda service bulletin about 2006 sedans/coupes..non Si versions I think...having a evap. code show but it was incorrect ( a false code). I cannot remember the specifics and I don't have access to Alldata but if someone here does they can review the (growing) list for Civics to track this one down.

Yes, we have talked about it a TON. Mine said that message for over a week, then just went away.

I just got it today, I was suprised there was a check for this too.
I went to take a look at my gas cap, all looks fine but then I think I know why. The metal piece that covers the whole is missing!!! I have no idea how that happened but if I recall there is a metal piece that covers the hole like a door even when you have the plastic (black) cap off right?

So yea, I re tightened the thing too to see if it will go away, nothing...
I am maybe going to take it to dealer soon because its annoying.
