i brought my car to the dealer today, and told them about my front noise suspension, then they called me and said that they have to do diagnostics for99 dollars to locate where the noise coming from, if they found out that its coming from the teins springs, they will not cover the warranty! i didnt do it, i rather buy new springs with the 100 dollars and for sure it will fix the problem..

I dont know if this has been posted before but - this is what happened to me and the stupid "bump stop" problem:

made appt. - Took it in once, they made me wait 5 hours and said they have to order the parts. fine whatever.

Went back - they replaced the bump stops, test drove with the tech, everything seemed fine on the short test drive. Then few days later, noise came back. Noise was so consistent i could make it pop on demand.

Made appt to go back AGAIN. They inspected it, and I told them to replace the struts as they are obviously binding with the top mount. They called the tech line, and said no go - they only approved replacing the bump stops again, but with an updated part. I checked the part number and it turns out the dealer tech was told (by tech hotline) to use the Sedan bump stops. So i've got the new ones in, and no problems so far...but we'll see.

Anyway - this is all BS i wasted over 25+ hours of my life on this stupid warranty issue they knew about long before they sold me the car. Woulda been easier if they just gave me the parts and i coulda installed them myself wayyy quicker and to my satisfaction.
The dealers choose not to inspect the new cars for any TSB issues, and hopefully the customer wont ever come back for warranty. And the service dept doesnt get paid for warranty work.

So I'm bringing my car into the dealer and I'm wondering if I should bring this up?

I haven't noticed any popping noise however the TSB says that all 2006 Civic 2-Door Si's have bump stops that were manufactured to an incorrect
specification.

To me that means I have the wrong parts in my car regardless of anything noise or whatnot.

Well I'm going to the dealer tomorrow. I'm going to bring it up but tell them don't bother test driving my car. Either fix it or don't. Last thing I want is some stupid mechanic hotrodding around in my ride.

I was told by some that honda had put out a new press about that popping and they would replace the front struts...I'm not sure if it is true

My 2007 Civic EX Coupe was NOT in the "Vin Range" but definately had this problem for 6+ months (since it was new). After 3 trips to dealer complaining, and with THIS TSB IN HAND, they fixed my issue. Service was blown away that my vin wasnt included, as the problem with the bump stop was occuring with my car.

Needless to say, I am TOO HAPPY that this problem is gone. I was getting worried and annoyed.

If you have this noise, demand they do this TSB regardless of your VIN number.

I think I have this problem, but the dealer will never be able to replicate it: they never can.

My question is, that because I have a 2006 Civic Si, and all VIN numbers are affected, are they required to do this for my car?

i would imagine so since it is for all 06's i made an appointment with my dealer for thursday and they are going to replace them without even trying to replicate the problem...

Thanks Eric.

You know what the funny (but sick) thing is? Every single I time go to the dealership, I ask them to run my car and make sure there are no TSBs or Recalls they need to perform.

Every single time they say it comes up clean. Yet I find out about stuff like this, and they suddenly know about it. "Yeah we were about to call you." My ass.

Well just for fun I shot of this email to the service managers at three nearby dealerships. It's been a week, not one reply.

Quote:
I came across this Service Bulletin (1st attachment). It appears my 06 Si (purchased new) has bump stops manufactured to an incorrect specification.

I was going to bring it in to have them replaced however I have been doing some thinking.

I recently purchased the HFP suspension kit but was told that your service department would charge me approx $575 dollars (including alignment) to install them. I'm guessing that is 5 hours of labor at $100 an hour.

Regardless, I deemed that price too high and shopped around for other prices. I've been quoted between $200-$300 for the install (not including alignment).

Since replacing the bump stops involves removing the damper & springs and the HFP suspension replaces those same damper & springs (2nd attachment). Perhaps some sort of deal can be worked out where it is all done at once.

Would you be interested in making me an offer to do this all at once?

If not would you consider giving me the new bump stops and I will get them installed myself?

Otherwise, I guess I will just stick with my original plan of having your service department replace the bump stops and then deal with getting my suspension installed elsewhere.

Take some time and think it over.
Never should of offered plan C.

I understand what you are saying.. Everytime i have called the dealer about the TSB's i know are out there they can't find anything just by looking up my VIN number.. but since i have the BUlletin numbers they are able to look it up via that way, and then i make them read the VIN numbers that are affected, and they go hummm that is weird it didn't show up the other way, and then they make an appointment and my car is fixed =) unfortunally it sucks that is the way i have to go to get shit done, and along with this i have to depend on places like 8thcivic.com to post the bulletin numbers and other websites so i can tell the dealer the bulletin numbers so they can find it..

So it sounds like you are going to have to go through the same route as me =(

The dealers I go to hate this website with a burning passion, because I have used information posted on TSBs and Recalls on far more than one occasion in order to demand that they do something that should've never left the factory as such.

I hope that the Recall for the rear bearing (which I posted several days before the actual release) helped out people before hand.

well bad news...

Honda revised the TSB and removed 2 door Si's from the list... The reason they gave me was because that it wasnt the same part.. I have the TSB in hand, and sure enough it was revised on 11/16/07 and only 06 Civic 4-doors are affect.. *sigh* so if you have an SI Civic 2 door.. No go.. ALso they took off all Sis... only 4 door 06's...

EDIT: I also got horrible service from the Service adivsor and she was a total bitch and a half, so i went to the service manager and let her know that the advisior was horrible and was some of the worst customer service i have ever had, and if it happened again i am sure there are other dealers closer to me that would love my business, and she gave me her card and told me to just call her direct line from now on.. Also she let me look at Hondas Tech Line and they are not even investigating the 3rd gear issue.. Which means that since they arent even investigating it dont even think about a TSB soon... GRRRRRRRR

That is totally it. I have the 07 si sedan. they fixed it. My dealer was happy i brought in the tsb, because before he saw it they were replacing the whole suspension to fix thr issue. Go get the bump stop replaced.

Newer and not affected my ass. Make sure they go on a ride along with you. and let the car sit in the parking lot for at least 20 minutes. it will pop.

It is now over 4 months since my replacement. 3100 miles later. Still never one bump since the fix.

I don't care if they updated it or not. The bullitin I have says all 2006 coupe models.

You can bet I'm going to raise hell if they say they aren't going to do it. If Honda put it out, clearly there was a reason for it.

Man oh man I have never seen a car company handle TSBs and recalls as poorly as Honda. I swear to God I'm furious about this.

If there isn't a fix for third gear pretty soon, I'm selling the car. I've had it with how Honda has treated me with this. For every recall and TSB, I have had to find it online and pretty much beg them to do it with downloaded proof.

If it weren't for this site, none of the recalls or TSBs would be done, because they loooove to tell me "There are none listed for your car" everytime I'm in there. I've had it.
