rpm trouble

ok I have 96 civic ex with a 96 civic dx motor in it since we put the motor in it redlines at 5500 rpms and my question is why would it do that wen its suppose to be redlining at like 7. I would realy apreciate the help thanks.

Just a shot in the dark since I have very little info, but is it manual or automatic? Either way, there should be something (PRNDL switch in auto, neutral switch on manual) which tells the computer if it is in gear or in neutral. Many ECU's set the rev limiter lower when free-revving. If this did not get hooked up properly (or at all) it could cause this problem.

Any more information about this engine switch? More info would be helpful.

Yes check all the connections on the ECU and are you in gear when this is occouring.

Yeah, Honda-tech.com will have a lot of knowledgeable better there that can give you a better answer about swaps and what not.
