Check Engine Like At 3400 Miles!!!!

HELLO 8TH CIVIC FAMILY, YES THE ABOVE TITLE IS CORRECT. I GOT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT YESTERDAY WHEN I STARTED UP MY RIDE. IT WAS CRAZY I COULDNT BELIEVE THAT MY BABY HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AT ONLY 3400 MILES. SO I DROVE OFF TO THE DEALER TO SEE WHAT IT WAS AS I WAS DRIVING TO THE DEALER , I WAS ON THE FREEWAY CRACKING VTEC , I WOULD SHIFT AT 7000 RPMS.MY CAR FELT WEIRD. I DIDNT KNOW IF MAYBE CAUSE I KNEW THE CE LIGHT WAS ON BUT IT DID. I GOT TO THE DEALER AND THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC. THEY SAID IT WAS A DTC P1009 CODEWHICH IS DEFINED AS A VARIABLE VALVE TIMING CONTROL ADVANCE MALFUNCTION. I WAS LIKE UHHH OK WHAT IS THAT. THE DEALER SAID THEY DIDNT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS SO THEY RESETTED THE LIGHT AND SAID THAT IF IT TURNED ON THEN TO BRING IT BACK.DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE HECK THAT MEANS IT HAS ME WORRIED PLEASE HELPHAS ANYONE ELSE GOTTEN THIS ERROR. PLEASE HELP. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT THANKS. OH AND SHOULD I BE WORRIED ABOUT THIS.

Uhh, that actually sounds somewhat serious. It has to do with VTEC (hence Variable Valve Timing). I'm guessing it has to do with being unable to switch to the upper cam. If the dealer doesn't know...take it to someone who does....

Something's fishy here. For a dealership to reset it and tell you to come back because they dont know whats wrong with it? What is it, Mickey Mouse Town?

If P1009 Doesnt Exist Then Why Did The Dealer Print Out The Paper For Me. It Says "if An Overadvanced Camshaft Phase (compared To The Directed Value) Continues Or When The Camshaft Phase Is Otherwise Abnormal, A Malfunction Is Detected And A Dtc Is Stored" What Does This Mean In English

I SERIOUSLY DONT KNOW RADIO BUT IT HAS ME WORRIED. ITS NOT LIKE I DRIVE THE CAR FAST EVERYDAY. EVERY NOW AND THEN I CRACK VTEC. AND I ONLY RACED A MAXIMA. ITS NOT LIKE I WAS DRIVING IT HARD AND THE LIGHT TURNED ON. MY CAR WAS SITTING AT MY JOB AND I WAS GETTING TO LEAVE FROM WORK, I TURNED IT ON AND THE LIGHT TURNED ON. ITS TRIPPY.

but from what you explained it sounds like your car didnt know which lobe to switch on your cam. sounds like a intermittent problem.

stalling a manual tranny can cause alot of things to happen in the entire drivetrain so i cant really say.

Can we not type in caps and at least TRY to use proper grammar?

IT'S REALLY HARD TO READ YOUR POST WHEN IT'S WRITTEN LIKE THIS. IT'S ALSO AGAINST THE FORUM RULES.
