Shifting

This is my first time buying a vtech manual. I understand Vtechs, especially the Si are different to some cars because one has to shift in excess of 7000RPMS. I just want to make sure I won't hurt the car by shift at 6K or 7K RPMS. This is a little strange to me because some cars, shifting that high is a no-no.

So my question is, what RPM do you guys shift at? Prefferably in the Si, but any civic will do. And does this hurt the motor to shift at such RPMS?

thanks

There's no point in regularly shifting at 6-7k unless you're just insanely obsessed with speed.

Daily driving, 3K to 4.5K

Sprited fun 6.5K+ (if you want to stay in VTEC on your upshift). Driving like this as a daily drive would be a bit insane...and I'd hate to see what your mileage would look like.

I would hate to see your driving record after driving like that for a while lol. Or be in the car with you in slow traffic, in first gear trying to maintain a speed at 6000 RPM lol.

Just shift at like 3500...

My Fast likes it when I shift high.

My gas card likes it when I shift at around 4k. Also, that's what your manual says.

Everybody has made great points, if you need to dust someone, shift at 7800k every gear...ha ha ha ha if you need to save money and drive respectable...shift around 3k to 5k. It's not that big of deal when you shift. You have the option to shift until the thing goes pop pop pop pop,,,,, thats your rev limiter.....it's at a safe setting by Honda. The motor could probably rev a lot higher than 8k, but 8k is safe for longevity. Shift when ever you want, chill out and enjoy the ride.

LOL I am insanely obsessed jkjk
but i'd have to say, i get my kicks when i hear the vtech

i've only driven hondas for manuel cars (well i've driven a TT but thats only for like two blocks) and i feel that you can shift anywhere with hondas and its all good. personally, if you're driving someone you dun want to drive ever again, shift at redline, if you're macking on a chick who knows nothing about cars except for three letters (BMW) shift at 3000-4000 (and get leather seats but thats not really related to this forum)

thats pretty funny how you would mention such thing. my friend has a 00 SiR (canada) and he was constantly in vtec till he hit around 125000kms. now he has so many problems with the engine, example the oil rings are shot aswell as the piston rings.. what i'm trying to say is that i'm not trying to scare you in hitting vtec but only hit it when you need too unless your on the race track(circuit). just my 2 cents
