Si MTF comes overfilled
New 07 Si Sedan with 4700 miles. Like many other people, I've been having problems shifting into 3rd. Sometimes it feels like it doesn't want to go in, and I could feel and hear the resistance, pretty nasty noise. I've discovered a method to reduce the likelihood of it happening, but it requires a conscious effort where I'd have to remind myself "Hey it's that 2nd->3rd gear shift you better do this". If I forget, or try to shift too fast
Had 2 dealerships look at it and all they can tell me is that I'm shifting too fast (wth's a short shifter in the Si for anyways?). I told him no, because then i'd have problems with all the other gear changes too not ONLY 2nd->3rd, but they still won't admit the problem. One (Huggins Honda) even blew me off when I offered to try and demonstrate the problem to their mechanic(after their "2 best technicians" couldn't replicate the problem) - they told me to make an appointment and come back. I decided to take matters into my own hands and try to go home and swap the MTF with the new Honda MTF #9031. But when I opened the fill hole oil came POURRINGG out. Turns out my MTF was overfilled, by almost half a qt... WTG Honda... That helped with the 3rd gear a little, but I'm still not satisfied. Thinking about calling the dealership up and telling them what happened, think they'll believe me? I'm tired of wasting my time with these people... I went ahead and even ordered the AMSOIL MTF (my last resort since I didn't want to use non-Honda "genuine" MTF). Probably will change it next weekend when it gets here. Just giving a heads up to next Si guy/gal out there that has a notchy 3rd, check out your MTF |

Yeah, I had a similar thing happen too. I was in auto shop and I brought my car in to change the MTF and I told my shop teacher that it keeps popping out of 3rd because the tranny was overfilled. He said the same thing "Are you sure you're not just shifting too fast?" He says that trannys are hard to overfill and doubts that changing the MTF would help my problem. So I got my Si on the lift and took the fill plug out and out comes a bunch of oil. He was surprised to see it. Then I just changed my MTF to Amsoil like many others on this board and it's fine.

The dealership probably won't care / believe you when you tell them the MTF was overfilled.
Almost every Honda dealer I've been to has a Secret Society when it comes to Civic problems. They refuse to acknowledge the quite generous problems that plague our vehicles. |

Probably because if they acknowledge a problem, they'd get 102704 other owners that think they have that problem and want a free fix. In which cases, maybe 5% of those people ACTUALLY do have that problem, sucks for them... or in this case, sucks for me cuz i'm one of them

07 Si sedan 6 speed tranny overfilled from factory here
Changed the stock MTF with Amsoil today, and the tranny was overfilled by about 1/4 QT when I asked the tech to remove the tranny filler plug first to verify if the tranny was overfilled from the factory.

Is this overfill specifically an 07 problem, or have others found the same thing? I have an 06 coupe and although I've never found it extremely hard to go from 2nd to 3rd (nor has it popped out of gear) I feel it could be much smoother. I guess it wouldn't hurt to swap it out and give it a try.
