Performance Clutch Issue with the master cylinder
I have a ACT performance clutch and pressure plate with a XACT Prolite flywheel. I installed them 11,000 miles ago and I just had my master cylinder go out on me. The dealership told me that it was because of the pressure plate was to stiff and cause my master cylinder seal to break. I need some help I never heard of this and would like to know if any one else had this issue or it was a faulty part to begin with. The car is a 2007 Honda Civic Si and the car only has 21,000 miles on it.
O BTW I have called the company omni-power to find out if they have a cylinder for the 2007 SI. If anyone could help please let me know. Thanks, Nathan |

I have no clue as to the stage is I know the spec and everything else! Here is some info on it:
2007 Civic Sedan Si (Performance Street Disc) ACT Extreme Clutch Kit Special Notes: Holds 338 ft-lbs. Must upgrade to an ACT (or similar) flywheel. ACT Extreme Clutch Kit Description ACT Extreme Clutch Kits utilize the same discs as their Heavy Duty Clutch Kits, but with a much more powerful pressure plate. ACT Extreme Pressure Plates provide offer 50-120% clamp load increase for street or race use. ACT engineers a stronger diaphragm that is heat-treated using an exclusive 3-stage process and the release bearing contact area is hardened to reduce wear. All the Honda models are SFI certified up to 10000 RPM. Key Features: * Increased torque capacity, durability, & extended clutch life. * All street discs are designed for smooth engagement & quiet operation. * Pressure & release travel in the optimum working range. * Able to withstand high heat & abuse. * 90 day warranty. Civic ACT Clutch Kits Include: * Pilot bearing/bushing (if required). * Pressure plate. * Disc. * Release bearing/throw out bearing. * Alignment tool. You may find it helpful to look at the ACT Clutch Guide that we've scanned into .pdf format. This will help you determine which ACT clutch is best for you. Note that the "OO" (Stock Street Disc) is being phased out in favor of the "MM" (Modified Street Disc) on many of ACT's applications. For organic street discs "MM" and "SS" we recommend breaking in the ACT clutch for 200-300 miles with mild engagement such as stop and go city driving prior to racing or spirited driving. ACT race discs usually only require a few hard slips to lap in the surfaces prior to normal driving or racing. Do not overheat the clutch during the break in period. The spring centered discs are a new offering from ACT, and we are selling these in place of the traditional solid centered race discs because they are quieter and cause less driveline shock (which is why Honda Civic OEM discs have springs in them). Flywheel Notes: A smooth, flat flywheel surface is essential for proper clutch operation. If upon inspection of your Civic's flywheel there are signs of scoring, heat damage or warpage, the flywheel should be resurfaced or replaced to assure good clutch performance. IF YOUR FLYWHEEL SHOWS ANY SIGNS OF CRACKING, REPLACE IT! If you unsure about the condition of your flywheel, we highly recommend purchasing an ACT flywheel with your ACT clutch. Typically, flywheel resurfacing costs around $80-$100, but it can be hard to find a quality shop to do it. It is usually almost as cost effective just to purchase a new flywheel. |

Any stronger than stock pressure plate is going to put more stress on the master and slave cylinder, dosen't matter the brand, it's just how it works.
Now your master cylinder could have been shipped with a "weak spot" that may not have failed till 80k miles, but because it was stressed more from that strong pressure place it failed earlier. |

I had the same problem, I instaled a Carbonetic Twin Plate Carbon Clutch, and my clutch master cylinder & slave are failing.
I'm looking for a aftermarket heavy duty clutch master cylinder & slave because with the pressure of the clutch the OEM will fail again. What about these OMNI POWER?? Do they have one for our cars... |
