A/T 1st to 2nd rough shift at low RPM.

I have this issue with my ex Coupe A/T which has not been discussed on this forum and I am just wondering if this is a common issue or not.
When I'm driving lets say in a parking lot looking for a space, driving in first gear in low rpm. When the rpm reaches to about 1700, the car would make a rough upshift to 2nd. It is so rough it kind of shakes the car.

Yeah, I get that, too. I guess it's the characteristic of the car, never really bothered me.

happens to me also
especially in traffic where it rarely goes above 10mph

i go from 8-10mph, then let off the gas, i hear and feel a jolt/shudder. Then i press the gas and the car jolts forward.

I think thats the transmission trying to upshift but when you let off the gas you didnt let it do it so it kind of jolts trying to downshift right afterward. I had some kind of similar effect on my corolla.

My problem is when I am in 1st gear and going very slowly like 8-10 mph (low throttle), the transmision would upshift to 2nd at around 1700 rpm and I can feel a big jolt from the tranny which sounds like a very hard upshift to 2nd.
this only happens when the upshift to 2nd happens around 1700 rpm (very low throttle). If I push on the gas and let it accelarate to anything over 2200 rpm then the upshift to 2nd is smooth.

This may simply be the way the shifting of this car is tuned. However, many tranny computers attempt to adjust to the way you drive. The car tries to anticipate the way you are going to accelerate based your "normal" driving and shift accordingly. If you normally accelerate rather briskly, the car shifts harder to avoid excessive slippage. Then when you are slowly rolling along in a parking lot you get harder shifts. To see if this is the case you could try accelerating very gently for a while to see if the tranny adjusts and the problem gets better. I used to do all the maintenance on my sisters car and when I test drove it afterwards the car would just about jerk me out of the seat when it shifted because the computer was adjusted to her lead foot . If I had to drive the car very far, the shifting would smooth up. My $.02

That is pretty interesting. I will do some tests based on your theory and will report back.
Thanks.
