Rotor is shot... Warped?

My rotor has been making squeeking noises at all speeds. and finally tonight it started making HARSH rubbing noise when i come to a stop. I am thinking it is warped. If i look at the rotor, the outer edge has actually been grinded down and is rough and uneven because of the problem with the brake. It seems to be only on the front left side. What can i do to fix it? what do i need? what would be an estimate for repairs??

how many miles are on ur car

if u are under 10k u can go to the dealer as a brake defect

it is considered a wearable item on a car but there is not brake rotor or brake pad out there that will get screwed up so bad on a new car that u shake and squeek i beat the crap out of my 06 civic lx and i still got 22k outa my brake pads and rotors before i had to recut the rotors and replace the pads

Front or rear? I front and it's warped you will feel pulsating in the brake pedal.

Sounds like your pads are worn down. And probably so much now that the rotors got screwed up. It was squeaking for a reason (Telling you to change your pads). Doesn't sound like a warped rotor.

Yah I had to get my rotors turned at 26,000 miles, they were warped bad. Lots of grinding when I stopped. Of course, the dealer says they turn the rotors for free up to 25,000 miles, and what do I have, 1,000 miles over that...so they charged me $80 bucks lol. Oh well, brakes felt new after they did it.

I agree that it doesn't sound like a warped rotor. A warped rotor can give you a feeling like the car surging slightly while stopping or more commonly a pulsation in the brake pedal. If you have low mileage and the problem is only on one side you may have a stuck caliper, causing that side to wear prematurely. If this is the problem it should be covered under warranty. However if you have racked up some miles the pads may simply be worn out. A squealing/squeaking at all speeds could be caused by the pad's wear sensor. It is a simple tab of metal which rubbs against the rotor when the pads get low and make a high pitched noise to let you know your pads are low. If you drive like this very long the pad will wear away completely and you will get metal to metal contact causing the grinding.

i agree...sounds more like worn out pads than bad rotors....although since you have been riding on work out pads for some time now they will need to be resurfaced.

Rotors never really warp. They crack or "cone" under high stress.

A truly warped rotor cannot be resurfaced; it must be thrown out. If you were able to get them resurfaced, it means the pads or other component wore the surface unevenly. This is not "warping".

Another possible scenario is that, during a tire rotation or some such procedure, the rotor had binded or the wheel was torqued incorrectly. The rotor would not be flush with the wheel hub, causing vibration and uneven wear. Maybe the grinded edge of your rotor was caused by a dragging caliper, who knows.

...But are you absolutely sure it's not just the wear tab on the pads making all that noise?
