got a few questions about 2007 Honda Civic Coupe EX
Alrite guys so i bought this car brand new off the lot last friday. Car had no km's on it, 0.5 i believe haha just rolling it off the truck. I have a few quick questions, i know they might sound stupid but it's my first new car and honda at that so im not sure on what should be happening. I also got the rust protection that honda offers done on the car.
1) First off ive noticed that theres a burning smell everytime i park and get out, and i believe it's just the brakes but im not postitive, anything else that it could be? 2) Secondly when i got the rust protection done, it seems like everytime i get outta the car when it's warm i can smell a Puddy smell, like it seems it comes from the back of the car from the exaust? any suggestions? 3) Thirdly it's an automatic and im just wondering about the D3 on the gear selection. Theres 1,2,D3 and D. I know D is what is recommended but what is the purpose of D3? is it just third gear or is it for in town driving? Geoff |

It sounds like the cars just breaking itself in. I noticed a buncha smells too when I first got mine. Brought it in and they said its normal. I gave it 5000km.. al good now.
D3 – This is also found in Honda and Acura automatics and only uses the first 3 gears and according to the manual it is used for stop & go traffic such as city driving. source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_transmission

The smells are car breaking in and the brakes breaking in. My car had a brake smell for the first few hundred miles.
D3 is used when you don't want overdriver to kick in, like when towing and going up steep grades and when going down steep grades, etc. |

Always use "D" it takes advantage of all 5 speeds and utilizes "grade logic" which keeps the transmission in an appropriate gear going up a climb (mountain) and desending the other side instead of mindlessly and constantly up...down...up...down shifting. This usually also minimizes the need for braking on the down side.
