New MT fluid, shifting much better

I just got my 10k oil change at a honda dealer. I brought my own Mobil 1 oil to use this time, and also asked them to change the manual transmission fluid with the new kind (which I verified they had, new bottle with green label). The shifting is indeed much better now, it is still a little notchy but it requires much less force to push into gear. The third gear no longer gets hung up or pop out, and feels a lot more solid. I definitely recommend anyone with an Si get their MT fluid replaced. As for the Mobil 1, so far I haven't noticed any difference in engine smoothness, sound, or temperature but I've only driven about 3 miles so far.

Unfortunately, I have to confirm this. It's been a few months since I replaced my MTF with the new Honda fluid, and you're correct. It has now started kicking me back out of 3rd gear. I guess I should have gone right to the Amsoil or GM Synchromesh in the first place.

aw lame, why did you have to ruin my good mood?

What would cause it to go to crap again? I noticed with my Si that the shifting was fine when I first got it but it got worse and worse over time. This morning I grinded 3rd gear 3 times on the way to work. Is the fluid leaking out or something?

Does using an aftermarket fluid solve the problem more permanently?

I can confirm this as well. It was good for about a week.

I just switched to Amsoil MTF last night. Holy cow, it feels like a whole near gearbox. Time will tell, but it feels alot better now. Even going into 2nd.

I have some Amsoil sitting in my closet just waiting to be put in. Maybe one of these days it will stop raining and I will change it. I can't wait!

That greatly depends on your dealership. Some will put it in, but you have to pay the labour. Some won't go near it, even if you offer to pay for it.

So if I go ahead and buy 2 qts of AMSoil MTF syncromesh 5w-30, how long will it last before needing to be replaced? Also, how hard is it to change the fluid myself?

30k is normal. I think with our notchy trans, I'd probably do it a little earlier just to make sure things continue to run smooth.
