Passenger Buzzing Noise / Weird Crunch Sound at Start-Up

Hey guys, had two problems on the Si that's been bugging for me for awhile, hoping someone can help me out a little bit. '07 Si Coupe.

The first one is a strange, buzzing sound (sounds like the door) on the passenger side. Although, I've found several threads on here about weird sounds emitting from the Si sedans, it seems most are/were related to an engine mount or strut. The sound I have tend to occur during bumpy roads or often during driving and sounds like a buzzing sound (what it sounds like when someone has an audio system but no deadener to help reduce the vibrations/noise). With or without music, it still occur.

The second thing is, sometimes (happened twice so far) when I start my car up in the morning (I say after 12 hours or so of being off), and the AC is on (I believe MAX A/C is also on at the time of start up), within a thirty seconds or so, there's a loud crunching sound (sounds kind of a short, amplified gear grinding sound) that goes on for a second or two. Afterwards, the car just idles and runs normally. I tried it a few times with the A/C off, and nothing happened. Another time, I turned it on with nothing, then turned the A/C on...and it made the sound again.

Only problem with this is that I can't replicate it normally, unless the car has been parked overnight. I tried to do it after work a few times (normal eight hour shifts), and it worked normally. Thanks guys.

I don't know, but maybe it's the a/c clutch kicking in, or the fans turning on, and then staying on?

I've experienced this too. At least 4 or 5 times in the past 2 months. It sounds horrible but apparently the car is fine. I think it's just the A/C kicking on. Most cars usually do have some sort of noticeable A/C kick-in but I've never heard one as rough as the Civics...

Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't you not keep your AC switched on while your start your car? Wouldn't that put a lot of unnecessary strain on the engine?

I've never encountered any crunching on my R18...

Well it's happened to me when I turn on the A/C, after starting the car.

The odd crunch/grind noise has happened to me on start up as well. It kinda got me nervous the first time I heard it but I realized nothing was wrong with the car.

Yeah, nothing major is wrong with it. Tried it again today, started up normally. And yeah, most likely, with the MAX AC on at start-up may use a bit of additional strain on the engine, but c'mon it can't be THAT much. Besides, sometimes...you kind of forget it's left on. *Shrugs.* The sound is pretty rough though, nice to know I'm not the only one though.

Same here with the grinding noise. It only happens when I haven't started my car for a while. But it hasn't caused any problems that I can feel while driving.
