My old Civic Sedan did that once too.

Check your gas cap, on mine the gasket/seal had worn and was replaced under warranty.

oh yay...I am part of this thread now!! I feel special.

Went to leave work and my "check gas cap" message was blinking. After reading the first couple pages...I assume I dont have to sweat it.

Mine came on today, opened and closed the cap (multiple clicks) and it didn't go off.

Turned my car off for 15 min, turned it back on and message was gone.

I had this problem a couple days ago, tightened it and nothing...it went away later in the day when I started the car again.

On my way home today it came back again...I just went for my maintenance minder yesterday but since it went away the first time i thought it was just a one time thing....

I'll have to see if it's still there tomorrow...hopefully it's gone and is not something that is recurring...

Finally happened to me. I'm going in for an oil change next week. If it's still flashing, I'll be sure to mention the worn gasket/seal idea.

Huh, weird. I actually forgot to put my cap on AND close the door last time I fueled up and I didn't notice till I looked at my side view mirror and I don't recall any warning light.

It displays the words, "CHECK FUEL CAP" where your odometer, trip meter, and oil gauge are. Not so much a flash, it's just what I called it at the time.

Add me to the club.

My 08 Civic EX with only about 410 miles had the check gas cap message come on today. I tightened it first...then ended up pulling off the cap completely when I got home and then putting it back on and let the thing click like 10 times. Hopefully it goes away by tomorrow.

Did anyones engine run just a little bit rough after this message came on and spefically you turned on or off the engine?

I've had this message come up about 3 or 4 times since I've had my car (Aug 08). And I've also had a check engine light (CEL) come on about the same amount of times.

For the first couple of times I just reset it myself by unplugging the negative battery terminal. This last time that it happened I wanted to get the CEL checked so I knew exactly what was wrong.

Well I called a local Honda dealership and they quoted me $115 JUST to see what was causing the CEL. F that!

Then I just went to an Advanced Auto Parts to have them check it for free. The lady at the desk did her thing and she told me that it was because of the gas cap. Now mind you, the "check gas cap" message was already gone by the time I got the CEL checked out. She said thats all it was and reset it.

Anyone else have this problem too?

I checked the gas cap myself and the gasket is just fine. I make sure to click it 2-3 times when I tighten it. This is just weird. Why would Honda put a "Check Gas Cap" message notice AND still have a CEL code for the gas cap too?

i don't want to fall out of line here, but it could be possible there is another leak besides the gas cap

Last night, I clicked it about 3-6 times, and today in the morning when I started it, it was still showing, but after about 1 mile of a drive it no longer showed
