Cracked windshield advice...

So I'm driving home from work tonight on the freeway coming around a bend and all of a sudden *SMACK* friggin rock smacks my windshield at about 75 mph and leaves a nice little spider web puncture about the size of a quarter down at the bottom left of the windshield. Before for I got home it already started to run about 4 inches out into the windshield. I don't have any experience with this so a couple of ?'s.

Should I take it to the dealer or find a auto glass/auto body shop?

How much will this cost to replace (fg2 with gigantor windshield)?

Any experience or advice would be appreciated thanks guys.

A few hundred to replace the windshield. Depending on how much your deductible is, it might be cheaper to go through insurance. If you find a windshield repair shop in the yellow pages, make sure you ask for references. Your insurance company might be able to recommend a few shops.

Well I called my insurance. I don't have a special deductable for glass so its just the $500 norm. They gave me the numbers to a couple places that they had relationships with and would give a little "discount" if I said I had been referred by insurance. I got two quotes of $313 and $345. Then I called a third place and they said $200. But, that placed looked and sounded shady. I called back the first place and she said that some of the cheap places don't come with frames for the glass, its just the glass and they try to salvage the old frame from your car. I figured i'd pay the extra $100 to have an OEM replacement installed. So they are coming to my house tomorrow morning to do it. Kind of a waste of mod money but hey, I GOT A BRAND NEW WINDSHIELD!!!!!

I see their vans often. They come to you, and they bring a brand new windshield inside the van, compared to a few other shops that have a guy in a pickup truck driving around with the windshield out in the open.

Had a no-name company replace a windshield when I had a truck, and even up to the day I sold it, was still picking out glass slivers from the air vents.

You can schedule it from their web page, and they'll tell you all the total price up front and the only additional fees would to replaced the rubber seal.

Quick, clean and very professional.

PepBoys had a flyer/card with an 800 number, but it didn't work. So I googled and then had them change out the windshield for an Xterra. Would definitely recommend them.

And only paid about $190 for the whole thing.

I recently got my windshield replace. it was an aftermarket windsheild. I paid 225 and was expecting a shitty windshield but it looks exactly like OEM.
